Battle of the basic lifts TJM vs OME vs IronMan

I will try to give you my opinion on the OME Lift, even though I have never tried the others you are looking at; therefore, take my opinion with a grain of salt as I'm only comparing to stock.
Like you, I use my truck as a DD and want to be able to continue doing so. I also want to be able to get myself into (and more importantly, out of) hairy situations as I live near the mountains in CO and only 5 hours from Moab. That being said, I also plan on using my truck to travel with companions and gear and don't want it to sag too bad in the back, yet I want as close to a level stance as possible.
That being said, I initially upgraded to the OME medium springs and castor kit for the front. That lifted my truck about 3" in the front and about 4" in the rear even though it's a 2.5" lift. Regardless, the truck drove WAY better! It was more stable around high speed corners on the freeway and thus, I felt more in control of the truck. Despite the stiffer ride, I did not feel like comfort was at all compromised. Eventually, I was getting myself into too much trouble on the trails and decided to get an ARB bull bar and winch. When I added this I upgraded to the heavy OME springs in the front only. Unfortunately, the heavy springs with the bumper and winch did not equate to the same ride height in the front that the medium springs did without the bumper and winch -- it was lower and I had a lot more rake (stinkbug). Because I wanted to level it out just a bit, I got two 10mm OME spring spacers per side on the front (20mm of spacing on the front). This achieved what I was looking for. I still have a little bit of a rake with no passengers or gear in the back, but I'm fairly level with a fully loaded truck.
I'm also using my stock struts and have no rear bumper. I will probably get a rear bumper with tire carrier at some point and have to upgrade the rear springs to the heavies.
I hope that helps.

Thanks AJ, seems your inline with most that the OME gives the most lift of the '2"' lifts. I hate how my truck sways at high speeds now but I also want it to continue drive like a LC...

Can comment on my experience with Ironman
Had a 2" lift in my '96 Prado. Went alright for 6 months then started sagging. Went into the dealer and they said it's because of the extra weight I was carrying (even though I specified before they installed anything that I would be carrying extra weight all the time). Their solution was to put coil spacers in.
Not happy with them really, sure they were cheap to start with but not worth it in the long run

How long ago did you buy your IM lift? Are the coils black or yellow?

Supspd do a search on ironman/ome. There was a thread from someone who owns both lifts on his trucks and did a LONG comparison on both. From what I have read here the IM lifts and the TJM's both offer really comfortable rides. Everyone I PM'ed said they loved the ride from the IM and TJM lift.
Your coils are def sagging a lot. My truck has around 325lbs of weight over the front and center now and i average about 19.25" iirc.

Yeah, so it sounds like your springs are majorly shot! Off the top of my head, my 80 with 250,000 miles and stock springs sits ~19.5" up front to the same spot you measured

He did not measure the center of the hub. He measured to the circle on the hub cap.

As it sits right now without the spare on the vehicle.
FD 17.5 FP 18"
RD 18 RP 18.25"

That was from the fender to the little circle on the wheel cap around the logo...

Your right I'll grab another reading from dead center probably gain an 1" in my reading.

Just my two cents worth.....

I have a 3" OME Lift kit w/ Dobinson spring's, OME LTR's, castor correction kit and steering damper. I LOVE the way it rides and handles on and off road. I cant comment on TJM (Good quality products) or Iron Man lift kits... BUT....in speaking to a few friends of mine who 1 owns a 4wd tyre and suspension shop that installs TJM, Iron Man, Tuff Dog and OME. The other is a ARB mechanic. They both say they get more Iron Man lifted rigs back/ or to be replaced w/ OME due to blown shocks, sagging springs and or just not happy with the feel of it then anything else.

Again, I have no first hand exp with TJM, Iron Man or Tuff Dog lift kits....only OME.

I've got the Ironman 2" and like it....Eli at Camel is the man to talk to if you go that route. I bought Bilstiens, as I found a smoking good deal on them. I'm armored up, and the ride is a little rough, however, when camping and have the truck LOADED, it rides like a dream with no sag.

I also have 285s that looked perfect before the lift and they still look... well, OooooKaaaay, but 35" would look better.

No sag here either with Ironman, I run 24c front 25b rear. I some times leave 300+lbs of crap in the back of my cruiser for weeks. My truck dropped a bit after breaking in the suspension (.5-1" of height) nothing to complain about!

I have found The brand of the coils matters little compared to the height and shocks chosen. A 2" coil is basically a 2" coil. Now if you run cheap shocks vs high end shocks, that will makes a huge difference.

Thanks for the tip! Also great build thread you have going...

So I am ready to pull the trigger on a lift as I sold one of my other trucks to fund this one. Where am I going to find the best price on one of these. Price is going to be more of a determining factor more than I had hoped for... Any deals going on or coupons, etc?

Shipping costs will likely be substantial. What city are you in or nearest? If there is a local shop, paying taxes & slightly more for the parts might beat parts + shipping.

Atl is closest city I'm in N. GA.

Awesome didn't know anything about them!

I just installed a Ironman 4" lift in October and I am very happy with it.

I bought Eli's complete 4" kit, along with a steering stabilizer. Everything installed great.

I also installed the weld-in Slee Adjustable upper control arms, DC Driveshaft and MAF extended brake hoses because the brake hoses with the IM had the wrong adaptor for the passenger front i believe it was.

I mounted 315 duratracs and regeared to 4:88s. the truck sits straight, level, and even, and rides great. def rides better with about 200lbs in the back but even with the 3rd row out, and 2nd row rolled fwd it rides great.

Iron man is also strengthening their local presence here. Thinking about going with their full set of shocks and coils.

So did you ever pull the trigger????

Im stuck in the EXACT same debate

I like the reputation of OME shocks
BUT, I like the idea of rubber caster bushings that come with the TJM kit, and the fact that they are progressive i would like to think would make them ride better

Any knowledge on TJM's shock quality? WHat about IronMan's Shock Quality

I am going to go with the IronMan lift I think local shop carries them and they offer the progressive springs like TJM seems that people are really happy with both a lot of the guys around me run the ironman on their 100's and really like it. Its a tuff call though since I have always lifted everything before this with OME.
