I have ProComp dry cell battery in my truck (97 F150) and it wasn't holding a charge. So I went and bought a new battery. When I went to change them out, I pulled off the protective cover on the negative terminal and it was corroded. I cleaned it off and stuck the new battery in. Truck holds a good charge.
Well for giggles I decided to charge the old ProComp on my charger and it charged overnight and is holding 12volts for over two weeks. It is not connected to anything, but it isn’t draining as it did in the Ford while running. So my question, would a dirty ground cause a battery to not charge off an alternator? I thought power just went into the battery from the positive on the alternator and I didn't think the ground had any effects on charging a battery.
