Hi
1996 4Runner 2.7L auto.
Battery drains in 48 hours or close to that. I put a clamp on ameter on the white + lead to the fuse box and started pulling fuses. Removing AM1 arrests the battery from draining now.
Originally it seemed fairly straight forward..either an ignition switch or a starter relay... but I read somewhere that a guy had to repair wiring in his rear window..
anyone run into this problem? I assume something is leaking to ground and if it gets bad enough it can even blow the 40A AM1 fuse.
thanks for any direction or experience on where to look first. Or where to find a detailed wiring diagram. Couldn't seem to find it in the 96 manual at the top of the threads here.

I just broke down and took it into a garage today to let them dig up a wiring diagram and start checking..
Landed on the module in the rear hatch draining the power and just unplugged it for now.
I guess more to follow if the module can be serviced/repaired.
Or perhaps if my parts 96 has a good one then I'll be swapping it out.

I had a similar issue with our 97 4Runner. battery would drain in a day or two. Did the same thing. pulled fuses shut off lights. Meter would hardly budge and I was getting frustrated.

I then rechecked all the doors when shutting off the dome lights again. The back hatch was closed (no door light on, on the dash) but when I went to open it it did not feel like it caught all the way. I closed the hatch a bit harder, and have not had an issue since then. Thats the only thing I could figure out. Something in the back hatch wasnt closed "enough".

Its been a few months and I have not had any further issues.

Not much help, but at least a similar issue.
