Ive got the bigbill combo too minus the quick release. I was thinking about deleting the hard spring because of on the last trail run I had it smack the back door a few times because of low limbs. Has anyone field tested a 3' firestick w/o a spring on trails where limbs will bend it back?

I have a 3' Wilson with no spring and I haven't done any SERIOUS off roading with it on yet, but I have gone through some rough foliage near my lake house and it holds up fine. Just dont go through limbs at 50mph...

We use to stick a foam rubber ball on the antenna back in the 70s. Boy that made me feel old. It also kept the old metal one from shorting out.

I have a 3' Firestik..... I put the spring on because there was soo much stress on the threads that it stripped out the coupler that attaches the antenna to the bandi mount.... I lost my antenna twice..... I would recommend putting the spring on. You can see in post #13 that I didn't have a spring......

It was my trip on that Naches Trail that SteveFJ was behind me, he told me that my antenna was taking a beating because it doesn't flex.

I think it would be harder on the mount than the antenna. So ill be keeping the spring and switching to a shorter antenna. I think I recieved a bad SWR meter from walcott. Is there anyone in the Chicago area with a good SWR meter I could check against the one I have.
