This is a "just for kicks" curiosity, FYI.

YouTube spun me down the WTH Trail last night and I watched a couple of ball joint delete vids (one a Jeep guy, one a Dodge guy). Anyone w/ knowledge or informed opinions on this for our rigs, please chime in. Again, I'm just interested in finding out more about this and whether it makes any sense for the Toyota/Lexus crowd.

Cheers!

Without watching the video I’m assuming those are both solid axle applications. In that application the ball joint only accommodates steering rotation so only has to move in one plane. On a IFS application the ball joint also accommodates vertical rotation between the knuckles and UCA/ LCA so it has to accommodate rotation all 3 planes (X, Y, Z). The only way to delete the ball joint is to replace it with a uniball or similar that can also rotate similarly.
