Hey guys, and heard the noise this morning leaving the house and it stopped by the time I popped the hood.

I heard it starting up after work and was able to get it on video. I left the car thare and took something else.

What do you think it is? If it's the water pump, should I do timing belt as well? I'm at 157k belt and pump replaced at 87k.

Thanks!

That looks to be moving in & out pretty bad- could be the fan bracket pulley(bearing) item #5 in the pic

Not the water pump, that is behind the front engine cover.
It is the fan pulley.
Replace it before you drive it again, it lets go and your fan is going to eat your radiator.

I've been digging through the service manual, and I think you're right.

I love Toyota even more now, by not putting the fan on the water pump pulley, unlike the two that failed on my BMW's with one destroying almost everything under the engine bay.

Thank you for your help !

You're welcome.

Toyota is not the only ones to do this though, it all depends on the location of the water pump, on these the water pump runs off the timing belt so the water pump has to be buried with the timing belt.

We call it the fake water pump, it tends to go out around 200k miles. I have replaced a few of these.
