It only happens when I am in overdrive. At about 2000-2500 rpms at a certain position with the gas pedal it vibrates/ shudders really bad. The fluid is full and in all the other gears it is fine. I can do 70 in 3rd and go down the interstate with no problems. Like I said it only happens when it is in overdrive.

So my question is what could it be and what should I check?

Thanks in advance
Micah

Do a search on "Rodney Flush" and "Rodney Party Trick" I just went through this. I did a screen cleaning, flush, party trick and oil change and the vibration went away. You probably already know this....

Nothin more to add, the gentleman from MO nailed it, IMHO.

Thanks guys, I knew about the Rodney flush. I was just trying to see if others have done that to take vibrations away, and thats what it looks like. Guess I have a project for the weekend.

Micah, like I said when I aquired this Fj62, it had that vibration, and I could make it stop by putting it into third. It occured mostly when the transmission was put under a bit of torque when cruising along and a hill is encountered. After reading all the posts here, I dropped the pan, cleaned the screen, and refilled it. That took care of it, but I went ahead and did the "party trick" and the flush, and the shifts were way crisper.

I wrote Rodney in AUS and he responded that it was the lock up that was failing, and that by going to 3rd, you take it out of lock up. He suggested doing all the above mentioned things, and if that fails to fix it, to then consider some of their products to remedy the situation. He also suggested synthetic oil and a tranny cooler.

Thanks exrsa1

That is exactly what I wanted to hear. Thanks man. I am about to order the new screen filter and gasket.

Just wash the old screen filter. It is all metal. I soaked mine in degreaser and then flushed it out. I was surprised how dirty it was.

Good luck

Save yourself $65 or so and wash the screen as directed. You may find the screen clogged with soft mushy stuff, the material from the torque converter lock up clutch. Cleaning the screen will buy you some time but if the lock up clutch is going bad the the torque converter is on its way out. Good luck!

It can also vibrate when the transmission output splines get very worn. If you have a significant clunk when going from reverse to drive, it's something to consider.
