Has anybody performed a hack/ mod to your 80s that will add an aftermarket (lexus accepted) backup sensor to the rear bumper?
My concern is getting wires through the rear tailgate and backup lights and not gettting wires crimped in the process of lowering the tailgate. There are systems out there, especially from Ebay @ http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...d=1,1&item=7972869578&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT but don't know if this would really work. I also don't want it to look like a child set it up. If the dealer can't perform this task, and I'm thinking it's too risky for myself, who else would you recommend to perform this task?
Would a license plate backup sensor do the work just as well?

PLEASE respond if you know anything about this.

Many thanks-
Regards

I find its more fun to back over sh!t....shopping carts, trees, stop signs.....did I mention trees?

One does not back over trees. It backs into you :)

Don't know much about it, but if you installed it into the bumper you wouldn't have to worry about all the wires in the tailgate and all.

This would have helped alot when I backed into a telephone pole ~5mph. It was pouring down rain and really dark behind me even with the backup lights. Also I was in an area not familiar to me. But anyway.. with the kaymar rear bumper I just came to a sudden stop. Got out after I pulled away from it and not even a scratch.. just some splinters from the pole stuck to the bumper. :) I was happy... that the pole didn't fall on me.

I have one of those installed in my LC. I had the sensors, black color. drilled into the black plastic ends to blend in and avoid the need to drill the steel portion. The wires run in under the weather stripping of the rear tailgate and have not given me any trouble for the last 2 years.

The model I have reacts to anything, bushes, cars, trucks, poles and children that come within 2 meters of my rear. Have a caution. The sensors have a way of missing cars with very low hoods when backing up and turning at the same time. There is apparently a blind spot somewhere.

On the whole I find it a truly great accessory. Things like this should be mandatory for vehicles like the LC.

While I think it's a "nice to have" feature, I really perceive it's for inferior drivers - functionally!!!
