Well - as some/most of you know I had brain surgery back in Oct after being diagnosed with a brain tumor. I had a biopsy that came back as benign but a bit inconclusive.

So after a few months and a bunch of Dr's I 'm here at Duke for surgery tomorrow to remove the tumor.

Dr. Friedman is my neurosurgeon - he's supposed to be best in the country/world....so not expecting any issues. (he recently did Ted Kennedy's surgery).

My surgery will be around 11:00 tomorrow and should be about 4-5 hrs long. I should be in the hospital til about Wed/Thurs. Recovery will be about 6 weeks...so no driving the FJ for a while. :frown:

Anyway, I don't imagine I'll be posting up too much...but my wife has made this site on caring bridge (I call it facebook for sick people): CaringBridge. Free Websites That Support And Connect Loved Ones During Critical Illness.

She'll be updating the site regularly to keep everyone up to date.

I appreciate the kind words/prayers over the past few months - we're almost through it and by the grace of God it will be quick & painless.

See you soon.
Jared

Jared, Good Luck and we all pry for a speedy recovery. Having been under the knive a few times it is nice to know you are in good hands.

Will be praying for you Jared.

You will be in our thoughts and prayers Jared. Let your wife know that if anything is needed don't hesitate to contact anyone here on the board, I am speaking for others including myself, but I am pretty sure we will all work together to make sure we are available for any assitance that might be neded.

Jared, Susana and I will be pulling for a perfect surgery and an end to this episode. If there is anything we can do for you or your wife, say the word.

Thoughts and prayers are with you Jared.

Six weeks may sound like a long time, but knowing you I bet you'll recover faster than they think. We'll have to throw a big azz throw down to celebrate your recovery!!!!

Allan Friedman is one of the best. If someone had to whittle on my brain, it would be him. I'll say a prayer for you and I'll make sure our two neuropathologists give you a good and benign diagnosis :). Let me know if there is anything I can do.

Mike

Dr Friedman is most definitley the best as many have pointed out. My wife works in the brain surgery department at Duke and you are in in the best place that you could be at Duke.

Having been through a similar trying situation over the past 6 months (Hogkins Lymphoma) and being treated at Duke, feel free to send me a PM if you just want to talk (you can call me if you want, too - 9102007365).

I know you've probably heard this time and time again but focus on the long term, and the short term struggles will be soon seem small and be well worth it!!!

You'll be in our family's thoughts and prayers!!

Good luck bro! We are all here in your corner. I am surprised at how many others have had serious issues. I have been blessed and lucky i guess.

Thoughts and prayers are in for you.

Hope everything went well Jared. Get well soon bud!

Such FANTASTIC news I thought I would paste it here in case anyone missed it from CarinbBridge. AWESOME!!!

It may be Friday the 13th but God sent cupid with an arrow a day early.

Jared managed to take a shower today (which is pretty awesome anyway), and just as he was drying off we received a phone call from the Brain Tumor Center to tell us the final pathology results from Jared's surgery. The news was the best we could've hoped for!

Jared's tumor (classified as an oligo astrocytoma) has been diagnosed as a low grade primary brain tumor. It is a Grade 2 and is considered benign. This means that there is no need for chemotherapy or any additional procedures. The tumor is extremely slow growing and Jared will just have to be monitored from now on. He will have MRI's every few months for the first year and they will then become less frequent the following years(every 4-5 months, etc). He will continued to be monitored through these MRI's with Duke Oncology. If it grows even a millimeter over the many years to come he will have another form of surgery or a mild for of treatment. We obviously pray that this is never something we have to face but know that if we do, God is obviously with us 100%

This has been such a journey but we have had God's love and embrace with us throughout it all. It has been a mountain but how wonderful it is to stand at the top and witness the view.

Happy Early Valentine's Day!!!

All our love,

Janet and Jared

We all went to see him yesterday..can't believe how good he looks considering!! He said that he was getting some rest now that he's home. I think he gets the staples taken out sometime this week. WOW!!
