I'm not a fan of the idea that people with more seniority or who have been on more maintenance runs should get to run roughshod over whatever rules of decency this forum is supposed to have. Everyone should be equal in that regard, including oft-absentee members like me and the many non-members who frequent the club section.

When people converse casually in text there are often multiple meanings that can be interpreted by the reader. It'd be smart for us to at least proof-read what we've written and imagine it being read by someone out of context.

Posts with some meaningful content and a little jab at the end for fun are one thing. Vitriolic posts dedicated entirely to belittling one person or group are of no benefit and should be actively discouraged.

I've been on this forum for 2.5 years and I've never seen anything as out of line as post #33 and I've always known Mat and Glenn to be decent people, both on the forum and in person. Though some may not agree with their end-goal, their having simply raised the issue is of benefit to everyone.

Welcome to the internet where people say things they wouldn't say in person. I like to think everything I type I could say face to face. Everybody I have met in person after first meeting them on a forum have been welcoming and pleasant. On the hunting forum I'm on there's one guy who's a real s*** disturber but in real life he's a quiet family guy. Some times I don't get it, it's a good thing we still communicate face to face occasionally.

It's obvious there are some hurt feelings even though everybody says they don't care. I guess I missed whatever spurred this thread. Either way some good E drama here...but still not as good as when forealboreal had a tantrum about his 1hz and started typing in block letters, now that was funny!

I'm still reeling over #26 myself.

If I knew how to add a smiley on this android app, I would. :)

The warden was known for saying, "What we have here is a failure to communicate."

I've been quiet so far, but would like to raise my voice in support of Mat and Glenn. Nowhere have they suggested that all fun should be banished from this forum. What they are suggesting is that we ought to keep things relevant and respectful. There is nothing wrong with that, and there is still room for a bit of fun.

Any comments that cross the line of common respect and decency should have no place here.

Well maybe not necessarily a failure to communicate as a failure to interpret the communication. Which is the part I have always hated about any form of communication that is not face to face or even voice to voice. The subtle nuance of body language and tone of voice is completely lost. This is where the history of the relationship between people is useful because it aids in the interpretation, where in cases that have no history it's impossible to tell.
And I have noticed that people use the computer as some kind of personal shield of invincibility. I on the other hand am just as much of a sarcastic prick in person as I am online. And I know that my views and opinions are not accepted by many, and I am OK with that, I expect others to have their own opinions and views and I actually enjoy being proven wrong because it allows me to learn from it. As long as it is a logical and actual argument and not just "because I say so" or something similar.
In the end, the reason behind this was not to single out anyone, it was simply to bring a little perspective, and to improve this place - which is a point I was pretty sure I was making from the beginning.
Look guys, I am not expecting anyone here to agree, disagree, support, hate, whatever of this thread. I don't care if you like me more for raising the issue or hate me for it. If the end result is that we think twice before posting and think about how things can be perceived differently, then that's all I was aiming for.
Sass, I know, by your reputation only, that you are a very experienced and knowledgeable person, I hope I get to know that in person. Sorry it happen on you to trigger this thread I do hope you decide to stick around here (the forum and the club). And if you decide that you are not interested in talking to me, fine, I will not comment on anything you post.
As for everyone else, if the majority disagrees with the issues I raised, I will shut up and keep my opinions to myself from now on. Don't worry, I will still do club shirts and when my truck(s) are back on the road and I have more time I will gladly organize trail runs.
Ball is in your (club) court.

Yeah I lost my s***, I am over it, it's all opinions and its all good. This forum has taught me so much and there are some real solid guys on here.

Lance and Graham sword fighting battles are amusing at times. Much like tater tots opinions and observations.

Group hug guys everyone's friends at the end of the day.

s***, I miss a lot when I don't troll the internet everyday. I understand Mat's point of view on this subject, that he would like to keep things pertaining to tech write-ups on the straight and narrow for the benefit of others to follow without getting derailed, which does happen quite a bit here. Somewhere Sailor and I bring our form of rough housing into it, and even other members get in on it. But then you can't really help not trying to derail it when Mat or Christian says "can we please not get off topic here", that's just begging the inner child in all of us to F!!! with. We all at some point have had disagreements and misunderstandings online, but it all gets hashed out in the end. As for the reason why Graham is so angry all the time, is that Dr's haven't found a way to surgically and safely remove the bug, stick, various light bulbs and others nick nacks from his ass. The x-ray looks like a train wreck. His shrink relates him to that nursery rhyme "there was an old lady who swallowed a fly", maybe that's his rational for putting all that stuff in there??? But I think he is just bi-curious and a dumb ass. :hillbilly:

Group hug?

you know whats funny is that i know many here and when ever i run into this group, i usually have full participation and bring more to the table than i take. then we have the guy that just stands around and does nothing while every one else is getting their hands dirty come and say i'm a nooooob. LOL

Who are you saying does nothing and calls you a noob, Sass?

Sass, I assume that comment was geared towards me, if it was I would like you to just come out and say it because I don't want to misread your statement and intentions.

I really hope you answer this.

I think everybody just needs to relax, you guys in confrontation are the cream of the crop! No point really, battle of the egos.... Sass welcomed me to a fire and fed me beers after I rowed to the shore after a long day hunting, kim who is one of the most unelitist and all encompassing 4wdabc presidents in my knowledge ( although (my knowledge is limited) and fantom whom I met a couple times and who I appreciate his character and see his motivation and dedication for what he is......Everybody has strong opinions but essentially all have the same passion for the outdoors and wheeling.....there's no I in team! Just an M and an E! Gooooooo Team!

What am I stirring? I want Sass to clarify his answer, if he is insinuating something I just want him to man up and say it outright. I would do no less to his face as I do on here. If he is attempting to poke at something that pertains to me, just do it, don't pussyfoot around the issue.
How is this ironic? What have I said or done that is ironic? I have admitted to poking at friends, with whom I have an established friendship with, and have said that I will stop because it's getting the wrong message across. How is that ironic? I have said the same things online as I would in person, and those that know me will agree. I have brought this issue up for the overall benefit of the forum and been ridiculed by some (which is ironic) for doing it. Not once, have I insinuated that this was pointed at Sass and his fault, I did say that his comment made me realize that we might be getting the wrong message across - once again - where is the irony? In fact, I thought I made it perfectly clear (to those that know how to read) that I am hoping he does not get offended by this and decides to stick around here. And yet I see more implied jabs. I'm not so good at reading between the lines, speak plainly and clearly, might be my ESL teaching didn't prepare me adequately for this ;)

yawn back to the filthy side of youtube lol

and say i'm a nooooob. LOL

I didn't re-read the whole thread to find the reference but I do think I remember it being made in relation to newly arrived MUD members on this club section - it was not in relation to ones experience wheeling. Again, the subjects of this type discussion really sucks on the internet and it is easy to mis-understand what people are saying and just as easy to say something you really don't want to say. Everyone has made their points well known. I can't see any more benefit of this going on and on. Some times it can really suck when you try to be the traffic cop... :D

Think I just better shut up now and go and wrench on the truck before it gets too hot.

I thought the point of this thread was to tone things down. To not cause newcomers to the forum to get gun shy. And continuing to banter like this is now acceptable behaviour? Am I the only one that sees the irony?
