Sass, in relation to your comments on the other thread, you've been here all of 5 minutes, just bought yourself a nice Land Cruiser and are welcome as a member if you wish it to be, but considering the fact that you know very few people here personally, you do not have the "seniority" to be throwing jabs back and forth at people you don't know.
This community is a bit different than most clubs, it is made up of people who are friends as well as wheelers. Even though it may not have appeard that way from our posts each member here respects the others, we rely on each other's experience and wisdom when we wheel and often times we work together or socialize outside of the club. It's a bit more of a family atmosphere than most clubs. which is one of the many reasons why I enjoy being a member of it.
So now if I walked into your house, and started making sarcastic remarks at you wife and critizing here cooking, when she doesn't know me, you'd likely punch my lights out. How is this any different?
Show up to a meeting, let some people get to know you, come wheeling, let us see who you are so things don't get misinterpreted. It's not about being sensitive, **** I don't care if you tell me to f&%k off on here, just saying there no benefit to it and it does not make this place any better.

If someone hasn't met or wheeled with sass they gotta get out more. Just saying:D

I refuse to stop making fun of Lance, socialists and Datsun owners.

That is all.

oh, and the Polish, Dutch, South Africans, Germans, Austrians, anyone from Quebec....

you need a crowbar to separate Irish first cousins apparently...

I don't know, Mat.

This forum is an exceptional place where knowledge is shared and the discussions are respectful, generally. I understand where you are coming from...where the newbie might think that there are a bunch of jerks here and they have no respect for one another.

Maybe I just know too many people and don't take anything personally anymore.

I don't know. What I do know is that I do take the odd shot at people I know and I also take the odd shot at people who I don't know but who come across as assholes. I don't fear the conversation.

This forum is light years better than all others. In fact, no other forum is near as respectful!

Kim, it's not about taking it personally, because I seriously could not care any less about the opinions of certain people. As for those who I consider friends, I'm not offended in the same way that they put up with my crap.
Sure there are worse places, I'm just pointing out this place was better. But clearly the "majority" is cool with it so have fun. I just don't want to hear (again) from anyone if their feeling get hurt because I called it as I saw it.
Chris, considering the long standing relationship you and I have and your active role in the club, I hold your opinion very highly ;)
And Sass, this wasn't an attack at you in any way, just an observation of how things have changed here. I hope this doesn't offend you because I understand from your reputation that you are very experienced in the wheeling community and that is always a welcomed asset here.

Being a socialist datsun owner, I take no offense from any right wing internet sexual deviant. ;p

But ya, I can see how potential newbs might get offended by some of the banter and run the other way.

My personal feeling is that MUD has tech sections for tech threads which are very closely moderated. The club sections should be open to banter unless is is very specific to a club activity or a club concern. I don't think we should expect Phil to be policing our club section with the same intensity that mods police the tech sections. We are all old enough to police ourselves and edit our own comments if upon reflection they appear to be a little over the edge.

WOW

i though i had seen it all till today.

Matt how the hell did you make such a big deal out of nothing???

it usually takes two to tango but man you pulled it off all on your own.

first you created the threat,
then got pissy and call called people names,
then you escalated it, then back down low again,
then boogy man came out again, then it was neutralized,
you proceeded to highfive yorself,
then took the high road followd by down again,
then you decided to protect all the newbies.
called yourself a hero and assured you are there to watch everyones back
followd by you just dont realy care.
then a bit of back pedaling. some forward progress, back low again, bla bla bla.........

Matt this is embarrassing. before it was an absolute fun/joke poke but now, tell us why you shouldnt be made fun of?

a bit of humor is always fun. go ahead and make fun of me. chances are i will up you and make even more fun of myself.

any one that goes allong with this and lets you get away with it, is not doing you any favors man.

ps, i will need a co pilot soon. would you like to come along, take me under your wing, and show me the ropes???

no kidding John. well said.

I am speaking up for the polite and respectful majority of the club members who – so far-have stayed clear of this discussion for obvious reasons.

I would think new members; in fact all members should first try to be friendly and respectful as a precondition of acceptance. Unproductive and distractive comments and derogatory innuendo is not the way to demonstrate friendliness and respect of others in the club.

I doubt very much if any of those engaged in the ‘public stoning’ and ridiculing of Matt have made the selfless contributions he has made to the club over the last 8 years. Matt has demonstrated tireless dedication through his organization of wheeling trips, trail repair services, guiding, GPS assistance, writing build threads, preparing time consuming trip reports, picture taking, magazine editing, offering productive advice (as opposed to the unproductive digressions that are increasing dominating this board) – services provided to the benefit of the entire membership including some of the free-loaders that do not contribute to the club in any of these productive ways.

The real irony here is being missed - Matt is simply asking that we try to be more respectful to each other -- but in the process of doing that he is being ridiculed, which is exactly the problem he suggests we look to improve. I guess some have a problem ‘seeing the forest for the trees’.

If we are disrespecting people for the sake of tasteless humor at others’ expense (I am not talking about friends poking fun at friends) – then we have deviated from the main intent of the club that is to promote our sport and affection for Landcruisers.

I fail see how this justification by the stone throwers for the “anything goes” principle is valid, since this attitude and what I have seen recently on this board is not heading the club in a positive or healthy direction.

Patroll's and Lexus's,too. Its a fine line between teasing and belittling .and I don't think any body wants to be belittled. But a little tease is healthy except a cock tease ,my female shrink says. Hope all is settling down . I don't volunteer that much with or for the club (but I do more than most for my community ). Bottom line is matt you have my utmost respect for what you do for the 4x4 community,Glenn you live in your truck more than me,to bad we couldn't get paid for that, hats off to you ,sass you go where no one wants to go (little pun there for ya) I will always respect someone who actually is talented in the bush, now can I take a jab at Kim,cause I think he needs the most kudos. Everybody has a talent the more talent in the pool the better even princesses.

Thank you Glenn. I, like many other active members who sacrifice their time and energy do not look for any praise or even necessarily gratitude. Some in the club do more than many of you will ever know.
But this is not about that, like Glenn pointed out, the irony is not missed. This is about some respect, and about this place not becoming just a forum for jabs and insults like so many others.
Sass, I did not create a threat, I simply pointed out an observation, then got ridiculed about pointing it out, and shown that it was clear that the ones who were actively speaking did not care about my observation so I resigned and decided it wasn't worth fighting for if the rest didn't care either. I'm not a hero, and I'm barely even a nice guy at times, but I do not appreciate having someone who doesn't know anything about me or my friends taking jabs without even as much as an introduction. Which, if you were observing the forum, was the image we were portraying so I am not surprised you thought that kind of action was regular around here. So I noticed that maybe we are not showing the proper image by our actions.
That's it. If that point is lost or not accepted, fine.

Well said.

Being a Pootrol owner in a Land Cruiser club I expect to get a few jabs every once and while. Kinda of like being a fine apple grafted onto a crap apple tree. :p But yes it is different when it is kidding around amongst people I consider my friends compared to people I don't even know. Both Mat and Glenn have some valid points. Still I would hate to lose some of the kidding around and for the club section to be serious all the time.

Matt, Glenn, post #10 is how i see you two. that is how you preset yourself to a so call newcomer.

starting to think this isnt really for me.

As a newbie my self, I appreciate the creation of this thread. Shows that people care about what happens here.

This happens to be my "morning newspaper" coffee and a good read. I can't express how much this community has helped me through spending their own time and effort to enlighten the rest of us.
