You should be just fine on 33's... unless u have some horse power under the hood...

I used to wheel a '77FJ40 with a fairly strong V8, locked stock axles and 33" Swampers. I found I had almost broken one axle in the 30K miles of daily driving and wheeling 2-3 times a month in New England. I say almost because I didn't find the partially broken axle shaft until after I parted the truck out. Went to pull the shafts for spares and found one axle shaft with the splines ALMOST torn away from the rest of the shaft. No idea how long I drove it that way.

Short answer: you should be fine with stock axles and 33's. ;)

That's cool i guess i'll just run er til she breaks and go from there.
I've been ridin & wheelin forever but mostly jeeps, kinda new to the fj40 world.
It's nice to know there is people out there that know what they are talkin about.
Not many fj40s in my area.
