I hope I'm posting this in the right place. I am installing a 14 bolt AAM rear and Dana 70 front. I am thinking of leaving them at their full width which is about 10" longer than stock FJ40 axles. I was wondering how many have full width axles (those who aren't running stock axles) and how many have cut them. I want to be legal for the highway so with 5" extra inches per side maybe with the right back spacing/width of tire and rock tubes or flares they won't stick out to far.

Seen lots with chevy runing gear really stable if thats what you want.Ipersonally go up narrow trails and like the looks of the semi stock width.

I like the stability thing too. I can't think of the trail you are mentioning either, although it's been a long time since I have been out 4 wheeling. I don't want to be illegal (my wife is a medically retired CHP officer). I was thinking of using 1-1/2" tube around the fenders to help cover the tire a little too. I like the TSL LTB's but finding a tire in 37"-40" without being super wide may be tough. I may also have to fabricate spring hangers on the outboard sides of the frame. I am currently building rolling stands for these axles because they are so heavy. This way I can move them in and out from under the cruiser to fit them. Thanks for the input guys. Lil John- what area or city do you live in?

I'm down by CSUS.

I actually got the trail name right:lol: The reports I get are full width plus large tires may not make it through the gate. I haven't been there yet.

On the legality, I think frame height is restricted to around 20". Mud flaps and/or fenders may be required.

OTOH, for every report you see about a guy getting pulled over for having 1" of tire sticking out, you get reports of "I didn't get pulled over with 20" wide tires sticking out". It seems to depend upon the cops' mood of the day:meh:

That is so true

you're not to far from Auburn. Unfortunately for me by the time I get my rig on the road I may be to old to drive:eek:.
