I had been planning to install 60 series axles in my '71 40. The more I wheel it, however, the more I like what I have in there now.

I DO plan to install lockers (ARB's), new shafts (longfield's, chromo's), and disk brakes.

I really want to use fine spline axles, though. So my questions is will finel spline axles go right into my housings since I plan to install lockers? Or do I need to source some newer axles?

Thanks,

Steve

Get the locker for your 60 series and the longfields will fit in the locker. The 30 spline (fine) axles are refering to the spline count in the birfield. The count is the same as stock at the carrier.

the advantage of the 60 series axles is width, and stronger steering knuckles. I don't think the carrier is different between years, I think it's the splines that go into the birfield (and maybe the hub too).

In my '78 FJ40 I am in the middle of installing a Proffitt's SOA and spring outboarding kit to fit a 60 series axles, 4x4 labs hysteer and Saginaw Steering if you have any questions.
