Awseome Deal on 285 Revo's

I just got back from the Firestone Complete Auto Care store. I traded in my stock Dueler 265's with 500 miles on them for P285/70R17's Revo's and I only paid $265.53 difference installed for all 5!! They look more burley and clear fine, no rubbing at all. I even tried to stuff them all the way and turned to full lock 1/2" or so of clearance. I also did the A-trac button on my c package only FJ (with rear locker) and it worked fine, just used a 3.00 switch from radio shack. here's the invoice and pics.

Oh yeah, the power loss is very minimal since these are passenger tires, non light truck. A little more road noise than stock but still quiet. I notice a little bit of sway around corners when before it was on rails, but way better off road. I will report back with mpg, I was getting around 18.5 before with 60/40 city highway.

Great to hear they do not rub, but I am planning on putting on the same type of tires I have on my 4Runner, the Wild Country TXRs which are a mud & snow tire.

If I step up to a 285 in that, I may get some rubbing from what I have read about putting on more of an agressive tread tire.

I have a month still before the FJC gets here, so I will have to read more on whether to stick with these in the stock size, or jump up to the 285.

I've got the REVOs too, but I stayed with 265. They're great tires!

It would piss me off that they (apparently) broke a stud on a brand new FJ, no reason for that, except they were probably using a pneumatic impact wrench to tighten the lug nuts , big no no. I would loosen and retighten them using a torque wrench.

I just put 285 70 r17 BRG Muds on mine. No lift, and no rubbing yet. I flexed it out last night and I could still get a finger between the tire and the plastic piece that sticks out in the front. I'm very happy with them. I bought them from America's Tire Co. I brought the quote over to Les Schwabs and they told me that they couldn't even buy the BFG's for what America was selling them for.

Yeah the guy was pretty much an idiot, he also scratched one of my wheels a little bit with the impact wrench. I guess I was just too happy to get a good deal on my trade in to get pissed.

FYI there are a number of cases poping up of broken studs on FJs. Many of them from tightening with a torque wrench at 85 ft-lbs...

I broke one just yesterday retorquing the wheels at 1k miles. Did some reading today. I think they have a bad batch of lugs they are using in japan...

Might be a recal or TSB campaing in the near future....

I was using a good quality torque wrench that is designed primarilly for lug nut torquing to be within 3% of dialed in torque. It was set to 85 ft-lbs. Spun the stud right apart before the click.

THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE FOR ANYONE THAT TOWS HEAVY LOADS. BE CAREFULL. Nothing worse than losing a wheel due to a busted lug/nut at 70 mph. Gives "off-road" a whole 'nother meaning.
