I just stumbled on this doing searches on awning rooms...I dunno how I missed it but I thought it was a great thread.
We went Springbar tent as primary and ARB awning & room as shade and/or secondary tent.
The ARB will accommodate our 2 Exped Megamat mattresses and it goes up much faster and with less fuss than does the Springbar.
Although we haven't done it yet the idea is that the awning room will be great for 1 night stopovers if we can't find a room or cabin and as a sitting area for shade and bug protection when doing a longer stay. I do agree with the post that said it might not hold up in high wind - the awning & room are light which is why we liked it but means it has some limitations - like high wind. The Springbar by contrast can take very high winds very easily if staked properly.
We do plan to use the awning & room for upcoming stay at Hatteras for shade and as a defense against the bugs which everyone says can be brutal.
