Getting about 7.5 mpg in city with my 89 fj62 and
about 8.5 on my 90 fj62
Would love to find a way to improve ..?

Getting about 7.5mpg in the city on my commute, it's less than 2 miles but I have to stop on average 7 times because of the poor traffic light scheduling done here in southern California. There's no such thing as platoon traffic flow here like back in Texas because every light cycles as soon as a car pulls up to the red light meaning the traffic lights may as well be stop signs. Great for a car like the Prius with regenerative braking, horrible without.

When I get out of the city traffic I can pull a steady 12-13mpg at highway speeds.

Completely stock ‘94 (for reference) with 4 pax gets me 14.8mpg on 91 octane and 13.6mpg on 87 octane (both highway). I get 12.6mpg on 91 and 11.8mpg on 87 (mixed driving in Vegas). Those are averages of 7 tanks of costco gas from november to february.

I didn't even think about the OP not having a yellow box to correct the odometer/speedometer. I guess I assumed everyone recalibrates when they go with bigger rubber. It sure helps with the transmission being sluggish and having weir

Yeah, never count out the air filter. If it's OEM, I think it's washable. When I got my 80 the filter was nasty and had obviously never had any love. Changing it made a massive difference in pep.
This is incorrect. There is a washable factory filter option from Toyota but the regular filters are not. I have 2 washables. That way I can rotate filters with minimal down time.

Glad, it's not just me. Around town I'm getting about 10mpg as well with 33's and a front winch. Moving to 4.56 gears soon, still on stock 4.10

Went on a trip to buy an E36 M3 and found I got better mileage on the freeway towing a 5000 lb trailer than around town. BTW, this thing tows great with new shocks and a set of rear airbags. I'll be driving the M3 more around town now with my abysmal Cruiser mileage.
