Aux light wiring

I've got an FZJ75 that I am adding a pair of 7" Stedi lights (6.4A/85W each), and trying to work out the wiring design. I'd like to wire them on a switch such that they are also dependent on the brights being on. Bare with me as wiring is not my strong suit.

I removed the stock front bumper with the fog lights. So I think can use that switch and the remaining pigtail for the aux light switch. I also have the upgraded Koito H4 headlights and the upgraded wiring.

What I don't know:
1. Does the upgraded H4 wiring harness keep the negative switching normally found on Land Cruisers?
2. What current does the fog light wiring already support? Are they on the same 10A fuses for the headlights? (It's crazy how condensed the 70 series fuse panel is)
 
Well I must have stumped everyone on Mud with my query*

Anyway, the Stedi lights came with a wiring harness and relay that took care of it all. So it ended up being super easy. The harness comes with a pigtail adapter to sit in your H4 headlight bulb connection (if you have the upgraded 7" H4 headlights, which you definitely should). The relay is set such that the aux lights only come on if the brights are on, which is exactly what I wanted. I did make a long detour trying to tie the aux lights into the existing fog light switch but I didn't get it working right and I just used the generic switch that came with the lights. I'll get a proper Toyota looking switch later.

In Virginia, it is against safety code to have brights/high beams + fog lights on at the same time.
When I got my 74, fogs were wired in a way that prevented that.
I rewired all that stuff and now I can have massive illumination but I put the plastic covers on the fogs when I go for inspection each year.

On this FZJ75, the fog lights were not wired that way. They would stay on with the low or high beams. But since I have the ARB bumper now, they are really more like LED markers, not real fog lights.
 
If you lived in a place that gets regular fog, you would not want to have the brights on with the fog lights, as that has the opposite effect and reduces visibility. Same thing in heavy snow. This is why they make it an actual safety law.

But if all you are after is maximum illumination on a single switch - makes sense! :cheers:

Like I said, the actual fog lights are gone with the bumper replacement, so I am just referring to reusing the fog light switch and wiring for the bumper indicators/marker lights and aux lights in one. But it's all good now.

It actually gets incredibly foggy in winter where I live (frequently in the cloud layer). But I've never been particularly impressed with *any* fog lights in thick fog. 🤷‍♂️

Agreed, fog lights on a 4x4 truck I have found make little to no difference in my experience. They seem to help when they are low to the ground, like on a sports car and they are mounted in the front spoiler below the bumper.

As a joke when my kids were younger, I would complain about the thick fog, hoping we could find our way home. I would turn on the wipers, then complain that I needed to change them because they would make no difference. lol. Made it fun, and occupied their impatient minds during a trip. :cheers:
