When cold my AT oil shows above the high cold mark.
When up to operating temp. the dipstick is bone dry????

what gives?

You better add some fluid there. I am guessing that when you checked it cold that it was not running. When you check your transmission you are supposed to check it after it has been warmed up (about 10 miles of driving). After you warm it up, park the truck and leave it running, run it from park to RND21 than 12DNR and back into park. With the truck still running check your fluid and it should be in between the two warm marks. If it is not than you need to add fluid unitl it gets to that mark. Running your transmission low on fluid or Overfilled can both cause severe damage. So be careful add a little at a time than check it again.

Also make sure to use the correct fluid. You can use Dexron III instead of Dexron II it is just a newer model of Dexron but don't use anything else. I hope this helps.
