I have the stock F engine, and found that AutoZone has a OEM carb for $199. Anyone have any experience with these, or the company?

I have a AZ Q-Jet on my truck and it works fine out of the box. Plus it has a Lifetime Warrenty.

However Mark (http://marksoffroad.tripod.com) could probably rebuild yours for less and better.

I have a carb currently getting build at Marks right now. Give him a call, would be your best bet. I'll let you know how it turns out when I get it on.

Autozone sucks. Seriously, I thought they where pretty good until I started shopping for cruiser parts. I went there as I saw on their website they had a coil for my 70 FJ40 and I had a gift card from a previous order. So go on in and ask for the coil to some 17 year old girl that I had just heard complaining about a customer asking her what she does know. So I walk up and say I need a coil for a 70 Toyota Land Cruiser. 4 wheel drive? YES. (this doesn't bother me as much as it does some people but it is a rather stupid question for a FJ) anyway so she says they have one in store for 20 bucks. Ask her to do me a favor and look up 74 Toyota Land Cruiser and see if same number comes up. Sure enough it does. (pre 73 internal reg, after 73 external) so have her bring it out anyways and sure enough is says right on it EXTERNAL regulated. Tell her I can not use it. Ask for some denso spark plugs. We do not have them in store but can tell you who does. No Thanks. Side note previously ordered and alt for a 71 and the top two hole that connect it to the bracket are differant on earlier alts then previous. Well get the alt from the zone and holes are that of a later cruiser and pulley is smaller so belt will not even fit. I do not mind them having parts fro later cruisers. Actually I think it is pretty cool but when you have your sh*t listed for earlier cruisers and it is for later ones and will not fit I have a big problem with that. Get you chit right and if you say you do not have anything for my 70 than you do not have anything, fine. But do not list it, I go pick it up and than it is f@#$%cking wrong. Don't do it.....Get your carb rebuilt for 200 bucks. Save youself. If you just have to get it at autozone make sure you bring your old carb with you as I would be EXTREMLY surprised if it is truly OEM and would work. if you do not have any carb buy one cheap here or off e-bay and have it rebuilt may cost a little more but trust me it will be worth it in the end. Good Luck.

Get a rebuild dont buy one at Autozone or any similar place. It will cost you a little more ( I think a rebuild is 250-300) but it will be better in the long run.

The last autozone item I purchased was a starter. Looked great, go to install it, bad out of the box. Returned it (it smoked when they tested it), got a new one, which preceded to die the next day. Starter number 3 is now in that vehicle. Things like that make me wonder about the quality of their reman units. I believe that most of their remanufactured units are not rebuilds due to normal wear, but rebuilds of faulty parts.

I'd wager that the $199 would = one expensive rebuildable core.

Maybe... I bought an Autozone carb to use as a spare while I rebuilt my original, installed it, and had gas leaking out all over from the float bowl! Turns out the thing had a big crack in it that had been welded up (poorly) ! Who knows what else was wrong with it. So I returned it, got my money back and just rebuilt mine myself. Works fine. Or get one of the Cruiser experts here to do it for you - money well spent.

Just have Jim Chenoweth do the carb for you. It will be done right the first time and he can tune it how ever you want.

Autozone is good for some life time warranty parts. Even if the brake pads wear out you can bring them back and get them replaced for free. Same goes for the gold series starters, alternators, etc.. Their battery is rated top in the industry. I'd buy one but Im to much of a cheap ass to let go of a few more dollars. The majority of the bearings they sale are Timkens and the name brand bearings are mainly Timken. CV's with a lifetime warranty can be replaced for free even if they wear out.
