The 62 tranny has been making a metallic rattling sound, not very loud, when under load. Fluid is fairly fresh, at the correct level and tranny shifts fine. Any suggestions? I've noticed that the shifter can be moved a bit to and fro horizontally, but don't think this is the problem.

Sure it is the tranny? Have you listened to it outside of the truck while someon is inside with it in gear and the foot on the brake to put a load on it? If you can get it to a general area that helps too. But it sounds like it could be a rocker/valve adjustment needed.

Check the flexplate for cracks..........

I suggest you determine the source of the noise asap. I'm not trying to be a doomsayer but I ignored what I thought was an exhaust rattle on mine for a couple days before it seized. :frown:

Thanks guys. I'll be out of town for a couple weeks, so it'll be awhile before I can attempt in earnest to pinpoint the noise source. Loose torque converter bolts, perhaps?
