Ok its time to stop yabbering on and start building something, Our holidays are booked for the end of June this year and this lite weight camper is our home for the holidays on the worlds biggest sand island, The state of Queensland Australias " Fraser Island " ..
Thanks go out to ATOYOT103I and his tough rebuild of a small pop top camper, for the inspiration and fellow Aussie Shortass40 for his build up .
The brief : Small and lite weight camper made from 1.2 mm galvanised sheet metal for the tub and RHS galvanised box section for the chassis and 3mm alloy composit sign board for the roof .... A very basic design and hopefuly under 450 kg when built ..
Metal fold list :

G,Day blokes
Yeah tried that sketch up cad drawing thingo and found it way to slow and complicated.
As to the size of this little pig trailer, its based very loosly on a Jayco flite ... I'm 6' 4" so the body tub needed to be atleast 7' wide to fit a decent sized bed slide deck front and rear, plus I wanted to keep the trailer as short and lite as possible.
So roughly 8' long in the body as dictated by the size of the sheet metal available, All joins in the body tub and tub to chassis join, will be sealed with Sikaflexe urethane and pop riveted..If I can get a poly type floor sheeting at a reasonable cost it would be better instead of using plywood ..
We mostly only camp along the coastal sandy regions so we need to keep the weight right down / heavy duty rock crawling construction isnt needed..
Cheers guys updates as time / work permits .

G,Day All, well there has been progress, first the chassis then starting to put it together .. on the welding side of things lets just say Grandpa Google & U- tube helped but years of being out of practice definately showed up, So much the darling wife got the Fabricator from her work to weld the chassis up properley ...for $80 and a beer I couldnt argue ..
Dont look to close at the photo's, I'm a self taught mug and a bit rough at metal work and a firm believer of practical before pretty .. I'll let the pics do the talking ..

And the other pics to go with above, hopefully get the rest of the tinwork done this week then begin on the floor and roof ... Had a bit of a malfunction with a measurement and the chassis is 15 mm shorter than the tin work ooopps ... Only because of the Retro fitted angle I cut onto the vertical rear tin work .. Easily fixed with a spacer though .

A mile stone of sorts, the major tin work for the body tub is done, didnt turn out too bad for a self taught mug, lets just say metal fabricators " Your jobs are safe from me ".
Just got the mudguards to fold and fit, the door to be tweeked and fitted [ umm not quite square ..oopps ] .
Then onto the roof frame / covering and lift arm fitment ..
There is a pinhole of light at the end of the tunnel so we are getting there .

Well another couple of weeks have flown by, Work and weather seems to get in the way .. Got a set of six galvanised sunraysia 15" rims from a mate that imported a tri axle boat trailer from the states, freebies so happy with that just got to fit them up with rubber .
Ply for the bed bases and floor is cut and ready once the roof tins are on and sealed ..So hopefuly this week it will be sitting on its own running gear with a liftable roof and floor in it . 4 weeks 4 days to go till D,Day and we head off for holidays ...
Building the roof frame and sitting on the tub in between rain showers was not fun ... gotta love working outside ... wish I had a decent shed to play in ..

Well after putting in a few big days to get the camper to a usable state, we came to the conclusion that we would be short on time due to my work and the canvas guys work load .. So Accomodation has been booked and the trailer set aside till we return ... At least its first outing will be in a fully sorted out state and not thrown together a few hours before the trip ... pics ..
