Some of the highlights of the meeting last night:

The August run on the 19th will be Tank Trap. At least one locker and 31" minimum tires and/or sliders advised. Here is some info on it:
http://webejeepin.com/Trails/New_Mexico/Tank_Trap.htm

Erik heard of some slickrock near Gallup and asked if anyone else knew anything about it - nobody did. He will investigate it further.

The September meeting will be on the 8th at Spencer Komadina's in north Corrales. He has the biodiesel powered Troopie, and will be giving a tour of their biodiesel plant.

October meeting is a Maynards'

The September run will be a shakedown run for Moab, and will probably be the 15th, maybe just to the Puerco but not certain on that.

Moab:
We will use the KOA at the south end of town for a base. There was some talk of Pack Creek, but nobody there knew anything about it and the KOA has the "kabins".

Still not sure about the E Hill campers' return. Some are talking Friday am and running Fins 'n Things Friday afternoon, and some are talking staying all day Friday to return Saturday am. Saturday we are planning to run Behind the Rocks / Tiptoe Behind the Rocks (basically, the bypasses with some extended length bypasses). Sunday is Golden Spike for those so inclined. I would say 32" and at least one locker recommended, but I've only run it once - someone else who has run it more probably could be more specific on vehicle requirements. Again, here is more information:

And, thanks to Marc and Danise for hosting, and welcome to Erik Niemeyer and Ron Lovato.

There certainly was plenty of good food for everyone. Sorry you had to work so late but I'm glad you were able to make it for a little while, even if it was just to get a look at that awesome Saab you've got ;).

Marc

Marc -

Thanks for the hospitality - you've got a lovely home. I had a great time out in the street checking out all the trucks. I hope we didn't scare the neighbors!

Evan

The neighbors were still recovering from the traffic jam I caused that morning with our yard sale. I'm sure they all hate me now.

Spencer (the Aussie FJ45 Troopie owner) and his son

I'm glad to hear especially that Spencer made it - his rig would be a cool addition to the HDC "brood"

I am from Gallup and I don't know of any specific trails that go up into the red rocks but I can ask around. It is all rez anyways and really anything goes out there. There are trails and random roads everywhere. I do know of some pretty sweet trails we could go on out there in Gallup as well as some up in the Zuni Mountains south of Grants. It would be an awesome overnight type trail ride with some good spots for camping if anyone is interested. I really want to get to a meeting and join the club but I have been waaaay slammed with work and an addition on the house. I have the funds and the diesel standing by...just waiting on the time. Anyways, anytime any of you want to go on some cool runs out near Gallup I would be glad to host. I'll stay in touch and try to make it down to Spencer's for the next meeting.
