I am considering upgrading from the stock stereo in my 98 LC. Here are a few of my questions:
Can I trash the factory amplifier and use the factory head unit to connect to an aftermarket amp with speaker-level inputs? Or do I need something to convert the head units signal to RCA outputs that would plug into the amps RCA inputs?

Your responses are appreciated.

The inputs going into the amp are low level inputs like an RCA connection would be. You would probably need to convert it over to the RCA so it connects to the amp properly.

I haven't heard of anyone upgrading the amp, but leaving the factory deck. Usually it is the other way around or both are replaced.

It would sound alot better with a new deck, but to each his own.

p.s. Here is a good thread on the factory radios with lots of good links
