Since I've been stonewalled by Toyota USA I thought I'd ask if anyone has has luck getting this into the country? You cannot even get a bug deflector for a 200 Series post 2016!

Toyota dealers in Australia will not ship the bumper to the US. I asked a couple of them. I am sure it has to do with NHTSA and crash testing.

I suppose ARB, being aftermarket, aren't scared of the cloud of a lawsuit.

How about the bug deflector? lol

AU has some pretty tough laws regarding auto parts and mods and they actually enforce them. lol. Have you tried a 2nd seller like Ebay.com.au ? I'm positive you could get a private seller to ship you one. There are a lot for sale. Also check alibaba.com oh and the russian ebay as well. The russians will send you anything they don't give AF.

The link above is just one I grabbed off the first page as an example ebay.com.au. Poke your head around the site. I didn't search for a specific fit or model # just 200 series toyota aluminum bull bar

Thanks but:

Not much good having an eBay site where you cannot respond to a query.

You mean like this one? Man, I've seen so many of these thrown in the bin because they are worth nothing - no-one wants them. I've got one in my shed you could have for free....

Tell us what is wrong with the factory bumpers. We don't get them here.

You mean the plastic covers that "double" as bumpers? ;)

No. The Australians get aluminum and steel bumpers (Bull bars) through parts as accessories for the 200 series.

1st post is mine. It's what I want. The ARB part is nice but it's heavy and I don't off road. Mine is an urban assault vehicle. So far, Toyota USA stonewalled me.
Modern cars with the bumper covers (which is a joke on all of us) offer very little in the way of protection. There just isn't much under it other than an aluminum "beam" and styrofoam. $400 or so will get you a new cover. Then it gets painted, snapped together and awaits the next person who decides to use it for a pin ball bumper. I'd like to leave a mark on the offenders.
A few years back I had a worn out mid 70's Chevy wagon with the requisite 5mph impact bumpers. One day It broke down about a 2 miles from the farm. It just so happened that my brother in law had a mid-70's Cadillac he had picked up for free awaiting the junkyard. We "bump drafted" all the way back to the farm. Very little damage to either car. He tagged me pretty good too in one turn. I believe he got into some sort of NASCAR zone; "Move Over!". I can still recall his grin in the rearview mirror. LOL
Anyhow, I'd like to do the Toyota piece but at this juncture I'm not going to chase one down and jump through hoops. The rear bumper options, imho, are not very well thought out with respect to the cuts and material removal necessary to make them fit. At least not on a car that's still has a pretty high value.

You can get it from Australia if you do some emailing. The below picture is of the Aussie Toyota pushbar. Quick tip. Don't waste time calling toyota dealership as they will not ship it. Find auto parts online stores which are shipping parts in Australia. I don't remember who, but that is how I got mine. Please note that shipping is very high. My pushbar which will be light comparing to what your bumper was around $400-500. With the size I wouldn't be surprised it will need to go on a crate.

The push bar would be fine too. At least I could add some lighting!
Thanks. If a name comes to mind pass it along via message.

I helped develop the nudge bar and newer bullbar, all three are still in production at my work. Should be pretty easy to get your hands on them, order from a Australia Toyota dealer, have DHL pickup and send to you. The bullbars are sent to the dealers packed in a box on a pallet, they are not export grade though. Would be worth addition additional production before freighting across the world.

When I have tried to order couple years back from Toyota dealers, all of them refused to ship it due to liability as product was not crash tested outside Australia. I had mine ordered and shipped through a non-Toyota affiliated company which sells parts. Someone else brought couple as well. They had someone locally buy it and then ship it.

Reduced regulations for bumpers allowed manufacturers to create more aerodynamic vehicles and the price is durability.

Anything will crash better than an SMC bumper. I understand the dealers CYA logic and know Toyota is behind it, however, the bumpers that come on these cars won't take a nudge in a parking lot. They fold like a cheap suit. Toyota is likely afraid of US attorneys which is a fair point.

As for crash testing I assumed anything the Aussies used or manufactured would stand up to anything short of a direct hit from a drone strike but I'd also bet the bumper would still be recognizable. ;)
