As I look back on the past year I would like to know one thing.

What causes the low turn out to meetings and/or lack of interest?

Is it the day of the week?
Is it the location of the meetings?
Is it the time of day?

I'm curious because we have just over 50 members and each meeting there are only a small handful of the "regulars" that show.

I think the club has alot to offer with the wrench days, trips to S. Padre, Big Bend, Katemcy etc as well as a pretty broad knowledge base from 40's to 80's and discounts to several local vendors.
A few of us even put in alot of time and effort to put together a T Shirt to represent our club and we couldn't even get 5 orders in.

So I ask. What is the problem?

If we want to remain a club I believe there should be more participation otherwise we are just a few people that own toyotas and eating dinner.

Elections should be held in February so I think that would be a good time to discuss whether we want to remain a club or not....

Just my .02

Kevin

Hey only reason why i wasn't there was that I finally had knee surgery Thursday! Good post though!

an email reminder would be good and a meeting place north .... everytime I can go its was west :frown:

Your questions are tough to answer - I have been involved as a member and officer for many clubs (auto racing, car clubs and now off roading) and I found it hard to get members to attend "dinner meet & greets", even when it is a meeting to discuss the by-laws.

I have lived here in Texas since 2002 and South Central Texas seems to have a real tough time getting members to participate, regardless of the club (BMWCCA, TTORA, TLCA, etc.).
The Day seems good, because on Friday's there are always family things going on like Football.
The time of the day - really does not make a difference and really a non-factor in my opinion.
The Location - for me is slightly an issue, but really I can not do anything about it, unless I move back to SA.

One thing we did for both the BMWCCA and TTORA, we had business cards made to help get the word out.
If I saw a Bimmer or a Toyota truck/suv, I would leave a card representing that particular club.

Over the years, attendance did increase and people that showed up, posted on the forums.
The card basically stated our mission statement, website and contacts (President & VP). No location of the meeting place, because we also had different places to gather.

But to make these newbies to stay we need things to do on a regular basis, this is where TTORA and BMWCCA is vastly splits.
The BMWCCA chapters must have monthly events and if they do not they will lose their support of the national chapter (advertising $$$, insurance, etc).
My BMWCCA chapter is always full of cars that attend their monthly events.
They also have a year end Holiday Party and we also have fund raisers for charities.
The TTORA chapters is not as organized, but more of a family type of club... similar to TLCA. I may be wrong about this, but most of the TLCA chapters I see on the forum or magazine have their yearly event and that is it. They may have a smaller event, but it mainly consist of someone saying; "HEY would it be cool to wheel...."

Now I am not saying we need to be so organized as my BMWCCA, but I wish we would have at least one major events that we could host. Then have two smaller events that does not take a ton of time.
Of course, hosting events is another chapter that takes tons of upfront work.
That is where we could get with our brothers up North (Austin) to be co-hosts for an event.

I think starting with the business cards is a good start.
The events we can work on.
That is my $.00001 worth. :)

just spitballin' here,,,, but, what if we devised a calendar for the whole year and stuck with it. No flip floppin or last minute changes on venue up 'til the last minute. This way people could plan months ahead for a particular month's meeting. Below is just an sample of a calendar with a different venue every month on a different part of town.

Now that I remember we had cards for the Jeep club in Mobile that we would put on people's doors and windshields listing the club site. The front page of the site had events, pictures and links to supporting vendors and the forum.

That is a good idea.

Make it a PRIVLEDGE to be in the club. Charge a $100.00 a year fee, and make so many meetings / events mandatory.

When someone has something to lose, they try to make the most of it. If it's free, they don't bother.

I'm sure saturdays are the best for most people. After all the weekend is for fun right? :)
