Okay guys, now that things have somewhat slowed down I wanted to see if I could ask the club for some help. As some of you know my 80 has knock issues. Well I have been working on getting the motor removed so I can work on rebuilding but haven't really had the time to get it completely out of the truck yet. The head has been removed along with all incidentals and the only items that remain are the top two bellhousing bolts and power steering pump/hoses plus removal from truck. My other issue is this, I am strapped for time between telecommuting between Charleston and Raleigh and closing on one house while preparing another for the market. I was considering storing the truck somewhere but have found that most places don't allow indoor storage on vehicles if the fuel tank is still intact. If somebody also had some storage space that could help I would be willing to work out payment. My intentions are to try and get this thing ready for Harlan in November if at all feasible.

TIA

Greg

Greg, Ill be in RDU from 7/27 to 8/13 and can help wrench on it if that works. Not sure where its at or needs to be during that period but let me know if I can help. Wont have my full stock of tools and not sure what youll need. Do you have a hoist? or engine stand?

Could probably borrow alex's stand or you could buy it from him cheap and sell when done.
It wasnt too hard to pull once the head/intake and radiator/battery/airbox were out. Those top two trans bolts are a pain.....even more so going back in.

ive got a hoist and sstand that you can borrow if you need it. I can get it to jason and he can bring it with him. Call me or have Jason call me if you need it. That reminds me i need to return a call to jason....sorry jason...been busy.

Jon if I can borrow the engine stand that would be huge. I will be glad to pick it up from Jason while he is in town.

When we pulled the engine out of the parts cruiser we just left the tranny and t-case attached for the time being, it was very easy that way and reading up on those top two bolts didn't make me want to take disconnect them.
We also didn't take the head off as I didn't see a problem with leaving it in nor did we encounter a problem, but I imagine it might make it easier to handle.

The head is off and has been for some time. That was my first step to diagnosing the problem. It's really ready to come out just time hasn't allowed. I don't want to pull the tranny if at all possible.

greg i can help just about any evening or weekend after the 28th. unbolting the torque convertor and the remaining transmission bolts should allow for easy removal since about everything else is already off providing you have a cherry picker (engine hoist). you really dont engine stand for the pull the engine, but if you are planning on pulling the pan and inspecting inards it would be handy.

Yea, I can't help much with storage either but I've got an engine stand you're welcome to borrow and I'd be glad to help turn some wrenches.

Thanks guys, the next two weeks will be tough but maybe we can work out a HAMOM near the beginning of August.

Eric, I will be needing the engine stand once the engine is pulled to start rebuild. I have 2 hoists so I will just need to grab the one Jerry or Brian have. Will just coordinate with the weekend we will pull it.

Yeah, the hoist you've let me borrow is not being used right now, so just let me know. I could have brought it by yesterday!

My extraction of the MB engine is a little ways away...

I actually took the valve cover off and was chatting with Jerry about some powder.... Trying to figure out if I'm going to keep in a ready to turn on state, or try and get the carcass out of my front yard and move the engine to the basement and start the driveline assembly (once the parts arrive)

I am game to help whenever you need it. HAMOM to pull the engine either 7/30-31 or 8/6-7 is fine. I could also help on weekday evenings after work depending on your schedule.

I will do my best to make the HAMOM once its scheduled. Ill have my own tools and lots of enthusiasm to help make it happen :)
