Ash Trays?!

I just put a deposit down on a 2009 LC with 85k miles on it that I should be picking up at the end of the week. I was surprised to see that a vehicle made in 2009 would be equipped with an actual ashtray in the front dash and on the second row doors. I was wonder if they can be converted in to a simple storage slot without the typical ashtray accoutrement.

Do all the model years have ashtrays? Seems like a weird thing to include in this day and age.

A lot of the time it's a cheap option to add in. It probably just slides out to swap for just a storage slot.

Ours is used as a coin/petty cash holder in the front for parking meters and tolls (where credit cards and EZPass aren't accepted).

In the rear my kids stuff their trash in it. For that reason I actually wish the rear ones were larger.
