Arm rest reassemblty

Took the armrests off my front seats to get them recovered. Got them reinstalled, but now the mechanism doesn't work to lock them at a desired point. Previously, they go all the way up, release, go all the way down, stop, and then lock where ever you pull them up to. Now, they go up and down with no stops. If you go all the way up, they click, but nothing locks.

Ideas?

Mine has been like that for a little over 2yrs now. Made a thread about it but couldn't find a solution for it. Let me know if you manage to find something that works.
