GF's 1992 FJ80 seems to be possessed lately - too many problems keep popping up. Yesterday I noticed the driver side rear window won't go up. I could get it up by hand, but it 'falls' down about an inch - seems to be out of gear/off whetever mechanism it is supposed to ride in/on. I have never worked on one of them new-fangled electric motor winders... I stick with what minor work I can manage on the '60 and other manual thingamabobs.

Anyone have an idea of what I am up against given the symptoms? Perhaps the electrical connection was bad and i screwed it up by pulling it up? I suppose I will have to pull the panel and diagnose, but before I do that I wonder what kind of nasties or gotchas I have to worry about.

thanks,
tim

You probably pulled the glass out of the channel or pulled the whole channel assembly out of the mechanism. The glass goes into a rubber insert (69975a) that then goes into the channel assembly (699058). Use soap, a very soft head mallet/block of wood and a lot of patience if you need to reseat the glass or else take it to a glass shop. The motor gears could also be stripped. In any case you have to pull the panel off and go inside, not a big deal.
