Are water pumps scarce and on back-order?

I have my 98 LC in for the 90k service... took it in on Wednesday for the appointment and they said then that the water pump was back ordered... would be ready today. Call today and they said that there were none to be found and the next one had to come from California.. and be there on Monday... I live in Va.

Does that sound right ? No water pumps to be had?

sounds possible, if the regonial werehouse doesn't have one then it would prolly come from CA, use to be you could get it in a day from CA, but now you must critical order it......and parts guys don't like to do that.

but when I had mine done, the waterpump was in stock at my dealer, should be the same pump as a tundra uses.....

This must be a shortage caused by panic buying at the 90k timing belt change. :D

That's what I'm thinking... Things will last 300k miles... so not many needed as of yet by Toyota's figuring...

The service writers are doing better than their expectations.
