Are there BJ70's with LHD and air conditioning?

I'm thinking about selling my loaded '97 FZJ 80 and finding a BJ70. I like the diesel engine and I'm very good at making biodiesel in my garage. I love my 80 but I'd like something a little smaller to get around the trails.

Only issue is most that I've seen for sale are either RHD or don't have air conditioning. I've got to have AC in South Texas. It's a must.

Does what I'm looking for even exist? Is there a LHD BJ with AC?

Thanks.

They do exist but nothing from canada. It's even hard to find some of the parts from can bj60 that had em. Maybe a europe, middle east, central, south american spec. Or adapt a vintage air unit in. I think you can still get the parts from Oz and Japan but the parts are $$$$$ and the evap case is hard to get too. I lookied into it and gave up. Luckily I don't need AC. Summertime in Va could've used it but I had another daily driver.

They must definitely be out there somewhere because the FSM shows how to adjust the Heat/A/C controls for LH and RH.
Maybe the LJ/RJ 70 a/c from Germany/France WOULD WORK. Its probably easier to use the aftermarket A/C

Hello BretI have a 85 Bj70 turbocharged and intercooled with Ac system, not aftermarket, original Toyota parts....in Austin, Tx...

Did we meet at an off road event in Bastrop? I remember meeting a few guys from Austin with BJ70's when we did a joint event with Texas Rovers.

It sounds like you guys are saying that parts may be a bit of a challenge for those of us in the U.S.

Maybe I just need to learn to drive a RHD vehicle. My friends with older Land Rovers do just fine with a RHD.

Hey Brett,

Mauricio's rig is NICE. Originally a Canadian 70, he has put on a turbo, intercooler and factory AC, amongst a slew of other goodies. Rode in it last night- that thing is FAST. No BJ70 should be that fast, but it is. It has a lot of low-end torque, thanks to the intercooler he just put in. It's a bad-arse rig.

To answer the original question, NO Canadian BJ70s had factory AC. Mauricio is from Columbia, and can get just about ANYTHING you could dream of(1HZ, etc.).

The hardest part is the LHD factory evaporator, which he has a few. For this particular part, it's not the price that's the problem, it's getting the part. When I had BJ70, I was going to put in AC- Mauricio was the ONLY person who could get it. If you search, you will see that it's a VERY fair price along with a very obsolete part.

Not sure if Colby still has his, but his was for sale a while back. Very fair price, and located in West Texas, about 6 hours from you and I.

BTW, you should try to make it up for one of our meetings again, been a long time. Hope all is well with you.

Cheers,
Jason

yep- call sign is Colby

is it still FS?

...

Just suck it up a drive a right hand. Its actually better and safer than you could imagine. I drive a BJ74 and a BMW 850 here in Japan. The only problem I have real is remembering the blinker is on the left in the bimmer and on the right in the Toy.

I prefer the LHD in a RHD country though. Keeps me from squishing bikers and scooters and helps judge that corner better.
