are tacoma and 4runner hitches the same?

I'am searching for a little help on determining if a hitch from a 00' tacoma will work on my 98' 4runner. I've searched around and they do come up with different part numbers, but the only difference i see is one is straight and one is curved. Is the mounting different? I know i've got into interchangeability problems with the 1st gen truck and 4runner hitches. Any insight to why these won't interchange?
