My '97 Landcruiser crapped its' headgasket, so since I don't have time to fix it right now I am looking at second rigs.

I found an '86 Toy P/U 4x4 std cab, 5 speed with a factory 22RE turbo and it's priced right, but just what am I looking at for reliability assuming decent repair records.

183,000 on the body and powertrain with an engine rebuild 35,000 ago.

Owner will take ~$2250.

Headache or decently reliable?

I did a little reading over on Pirate 4x4 - if anybody would bash something it would be those guys.

Seems to get decent reviews aside from the fact that its not really a great idea to have turbo spool as part of the equasion for a hardcore trail rig, but since I only need transportation and a crap hauler, I *should* be fine. It's IFS too so that made it less worthy to the Pirate guys, but it will probably come home with me tomorrow, barring anything really wrong with it.

Body has a few issues, but ugly doesn't scare me as long as the powertrain is sound.

I'll let you know if I pass on it though.

They are good trucks...I had on (4x2) for two years. Lots of fun to drive around, especially when the turbo whines up. Mine lasted to 200k miles, then I sold it to someone who really trashed it. :'(

It came home with me yesterday - $2000 even. Pretty much a dent or two on every panel and a beat down seat, but otherwise a solid runner.
