ARB vs TJM??

Bringing up from the dead, but I ask this question. If the deer is hit as in this video (not for the faint of heart and being used as a visual) I ask this question. Keep in mind this is a car and I am not basing it on this. On a 80 with a arb & vs a slee, would the ARB deflect it higher or forward or with a slee would it would hit the top of the hood and slide up like the car? Never hit one and i understand it's hard to explain, but to go back to the stinger I would think that would deflect it.

i vote for arb over tjm. had one on my 4Runner and theres one on my 80. they're strong as hell, and their hoops are very stout. not only do they offer high corner light & hood protection (which they've done for me many times...esp in the tight trails up around here..), but they also make an excellent recovery point.

this was my saving grace when i sunk the 80 last month. luckily, my father in law was already out of the truck before i entered...and got stuck in a waist high deep murky water hole. see avatar. he hooked my recovery strap over the center hoop, between the supports, and a BJ60 was able to yank me out with no ill effect to the bumper..hoop, or frame. tugging a 5000 lb truck stuck in some heavy muck takes alot of force. a tjm would have not been able to withstand this kind of tug.

clearance wise...the SB and custom jobs like nay's obviously have the advantage.

as for wildlife...ive yet to encounter one where i may end up smoking it...so i cant say what would be best in preventing it from deflecting up n over onto the windscreen. any sort of stinger or the likes would work im sure. if thats an issue...you can always add extra hoops to an existing prefabbed bumper..

Will you be using a winch?

Some bumpers out there aren't designed for one, others are, then still others have a particular winch designed for it, so keep that in mind.

Short bus is out, not enough protection from these Southeastern deer.

Slee, you listening? Build it and they will come....

My only experience with the TJM is on a 60, it is no where near as strong in that application, the wings tend to twist badly.
The winch is a pain to get to as well.

BTW, I do have an ARB on my 80, Come up to Roanoke sometime if you need to get some measurements

I have an ARB and love it. saw some pic of 80 wrecked with the ARB still intact. reinforced my decision
