Thanks everyone!, right now I am leaning toward DIY. My dad has all the tools and has already critiqued my plan a few times so I think we are on to something.

@CruiserDave the KISS drawers look awesome, I think these would be my choice if I change my mind. I think the ARBs would be great but price is part of the consideration.

@00fourseventy love the bottle open just added to the plan.

I will definitely let you guys know what I finally go with and post a little video of the results of course :-)

@Tareq check out my channel if you get a chance, pretty amateur so far but I'm learning and occasionally post useful content :-)

Thank you!! :)

Nice build,,, I see posts on the net for free wood too so I might rebuild mine if I get time lol

I have 3 comments:

1) be careful not to spend too much money on expensive slides, like 200lb rated.
Mine are 100lb which is more than what I need and cost me 28$ cnd.
Loaded with groceries or equipment I dont think it weighs more than 50-60lbs

2) I would rather paint the box than cover it with carpet as it is easier to clean than dragging the vacuum to the car to clean the carpet ,,,, but we are different.

3) your box seems as high as mine, meaning higher than the 2nd row seats when folded, so how do u level it out so you can sleep? did u get a wood extension and put it there when u go to sleep?
Please take a pic of the platform extension over the 2nd row seats.

Thank you!! :)

I would've bought 100 lb slides but the Rockler in Denver didn't have them in stock when I bought these.

As for the carpet, I just use our handheld vac to clean it. It's super cheap, so I have all intentions of replacing the carpet on the top every few years (although I haven't needed to yet).

You are correct about the platform over the second row. I have a carpeted piece of ply that attaches below two brackets on the front of the drawers with a couple bolts and wing nuts. I put an old Ridge Rest between the seats and plywood, as well. If I need to use the second row seats, the plywood also flips around and bolts in backwards, covering the top of the drawers. I'll try to get a pic in the next couple days. With the height they are, oil and coolant jugs stand up under the wings without any issue.

Great, waiting for the pics as I need to make a bed extension too :)

Sorry for the delay! Here are a few pics. I just screwed 2 flat brackets onto the drawers that extend maybe half an inch past the front of the top piece. I have holes in the separate piece that line up with the holes on the brackets, then I just slide the separate piece under the brackets and attach with bolts and wingnuts. They've held almost 400 lbs of human and 200 lbs of German Shepherd (at the same time- NOT comfortable lol) without any signs of bending. I flip the separate piece around and bolt it down on top of the brackets if I need to use the middle row. I thought about going wider, and I still might, but I like having easy access to the door pockets.

Totally homemade- I am very impatient and rushed the build. I needed to keep one seat in the back for kids. Prob took 5-6 hrs and $50 to complete. Bolted to floor, no slides, works fine...

thank you, that was helpful :)

Even if u can afford the most sophisticated system, I would still advise you to build your own from scratch :)
I could have bought one ready, or got a carpenter to do it for me.
Money was not an issue.
However, the fun is in building it yourself and living the experience.
It is more satisfying.

Here is me building mine, good luck!!
