ARB Locker Install Question

ACC is going to be installing a front air locker on my friends FJ. He is thinking of having them also do a Yukon Overhaul kit as well. Is it necessary for him to have this done? There is nothing wrong (that we know of) with the front diff at the present time.

No, it's not strictly necessary, but how many miles are on it? A master install kit comes with all new carrier and pinion bearings and will cost a couple of hundred dollars, but if he's anal about preventative maintenance and has the money, the diff is already apart so the extra labor to install them is minimal.

I disagree. As stated above, while its apart, I think its smart to do but its your rig...

When we install Just an ARB in a low mileage truck (without a ratio change) we generally leave the pinion bearing and pre-load etc alone since it doesn't have to be removed to install the ARB. Since the carrier has to be changed we do recommend installing new carrier bearings with the locker. We also like to install new axle seals while the diff is out of the truck as well.

If we are changing gear ratios we almost always install new bearings and seals in everything.

When I installed my ARB , I went ahead and replaced everything while I was in it . At the time it only had 15k on it , that was 5k ago and no problems yet . But I used a master kit I got from Toyota .
