My buddy is getting ready to install ARB lockers in his 93 cruiser. We have been trying to figure out options for the compressor. Should he just buy the ARB unit. Ive heard to use the compressor from a Caddilac air susupension. What should he consider? What are the people in here using? Any input will ge greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance

Mullet family....LMAO I love that s***...

I would use the ARB compressor, for the air lockers only, and be done with it...

But that is just me.

Good luck!

If I were to install ARB lockers in an offroad truck I would ensure that the locker air supply was also suitable for airing up tires. From what I have read, I have formed the opinion that the arb compressor's performance likely falls short of what would be suitable for tire airing up duty on a frequent basis.

If one is looking for a good 12 volt electric compressor suitable for tire inflation then I would check out a Thomas TA4101-DC. This is an industrial compressor (with an industrial price). Would be overkill if all it was going to be used for is operating arb lockers. Thomas also has smaller compressors that would likely be suitable for locker only duty.

I think that is why he has been hesitant to buy the ARB unit...He wants something strong enough to air up tires without having to have an air tank resovior.

Extreme Outback has a 3/4 hp 12v compressor that puts out enough cfm for airing tyres or running tools. It's expensive but can be bought direct or from Slee Offroad. They have all the bits and pieces he will need for plumbing for the lockers and for other uses.

FWIW, he will not be happy with the junk yard "Caddy" compressor(s)

I can't find the website now, but at one point in time, over a year ago, I came across what looked like the original manufacturer's website of the compressor that slee and outback offer. The manufacturer is in the business of producing products for the the lowrider / air suspension markets. They offer a number of similar looking lower power models, chromed bling, switches, compressor repair parts, and such. The published hp and cfm specs are better than the Thomas, but I never was able to get any feedback as to whether or not they hold up as well as the big Thomas compressors do.
