Hi,

I am thinking about purchasing either a LC100 or the LX470 for my wife. I would guess it would be a 98 or 99 with the diff lock(or if I wait long enough a 2000 with the stability control) We live in Mexico and I would like to put the ARB bumper on it---if I did this would I have to change out the springs and shocks?

The reason I am asking is I have a 00 4Runner and I ended up putting on sway away's, and OME on the rear to help support the TJM--I t-boned a car and only ended up with some white paint on the TJM. My goal is to keep the LC as stock as possible becuase the 4Runner is geared for offroad. Here is a ebay ARB for $1k shipped--looks like a good deal for this particular model. What do you guys think good performance with stock suspension and ARB bumper?

you wont need new spings or shocks for such a small bar on the front, but new shocks do always seem to make a difference especially when the stockers are getting old. If you put a swingout tyre carrier on the back, and will be carrying 2 tyres and extra fuel, you will need new springs for the back.

4Runners generally need new springs all round if you plan on adding any barwork to them. The standard springs are too flexy.

It depends on how you like the truck to drive and also what bumper. With the ARB Combination bar you would have to at least upgrade the torsion bars. The stock torsion bars does not handle the extra weight very well. You loose height, and when you crank them up a little the handling is very soft (for lack of better work). The Sahara bar is slightly lighter.

The LX470 will auto compensate for the addtional weight and you would not need to add springs. The hydraylic suspension can has height control (called Skyhook system) and it will be ok. The adjustability of the shocks from soft to firm will also help. If you add a lot of weight to a LX470 you have to start tickering with the suspension.

Christo--Thanks for the reply--your LX looks great. I have a 00 4Runner for all my off-highway adventures. So if you were in my shoes would you go for the LX over the cruiser?
