I have an old ARB bullbar on my fj60 and am in the process of installing a winch. I spoke with a local warn winch distrubutor and he told me that the bumper I had was designed for the warn M1000, or the xd9000. The M1000 is no longer avaliable so I purchased the xd9000, with the understanding that I would have to mount it upside down. The dilema I now have is that the cable feeds out from the top of the winch rather than the bottom (the fairlead roller only fits on the bottom). It is my understanding that I cannot simply re spool the cable so that the cable feeds out on the bottom, as I will loose winch braking functions. I can think of a couple solutions, but would like to hear solutions from people with a bit more experience before I act. Any ideas? Please let me know.

I had a Ramsey winch 9500i Platinum .. and this winch have the same brake system in both directions ( function as well ) never try it .. the main reazon I didn't need it ..

But I arm and disarm this winch several times and know fine that no problem with the drum brake if your rollup the cable up side down.

FWIW...you could get the M10K if you wanted...

I know you already puchased the other winch, but you can still get the M10K. They are only available through ARB and I think most ARB dealers could call them and get their hands on one. I confirmed that with ARB just a few months ago.

I just found a used one for my ARB, fits nicely in there.

I had a similar issue with a new Ramsey Rep 9.5e. Fit perfect when flipped but the brake only functions the "other" way. No parts available to reverse the brake direction either. Turns out that I could fit the winch to the ARB by filing the holes offset towards the drivers side. This let me mount the winch to reel in under the drum like the winch wanted. I had to drill the roller fairlead to fit the bumper anyway so I drilled the holes to fit the new offset mounting position. I used big washers for the other two mounting holes. I have also seen photos on the board where someone cut and welded the mounts to fit a different winch.

I mounted ths m12000 in mine with only a 1/4 in trim didnt know anything about mounting the winch upside down ....the cable should still come off the bottom even with the feet mount forward ??
