I know this has been asked before.. but can't find a specific answer.. so here is the question.

I'm about to buy an ARB bull bar for my 62.

There are 2 types or model numbers for the winch option.

I plan to buy the winch later... when I can afford it...

Which type do you guys recommend? I really haven't a clue and for 800 bucks (including shipping) .....I don't want to buy something then wish I had the other one.

Thanks..

I don't have any experience with these, but I think the difference is that you can go with a bigger winch on the low mount bumper. Another consideration is buying beefier leaf springs when adding all that weight to the front end.

I believe that one model is for a bumper with winch mounts or is winch compatible. The other model number is the bumper which is not winch compatible.

You have two winch-compatible ARB choices: one is for an upright style winch (basically the tried and true 8274) and the other is for the laydown style (like the newer M-series ones). Go to Cruiser Outfitters or anyplace else that carries them, you'll see the choice. Same price for either.

There are threads here, I seem to recall, showing how folks slightly mod their bull bars to fit the winch that it wasn't meant for. I'm pretty sure it can be done. But you should just try to figure out what you'll want in a while: a 8274 (pricey but can be found used as they've been built forever ... sorta the gold standard of winches) or some other Warn (easier to find new, cheaper new, and maybe a bit more bling-y).

I don't have either ARB bull bar yet, but I've been weighing this same decision myself. Don't think you can go wrong either way really. Just don't get the non-winch model ARB.

Jason summed it up pretty well... There are basically 3 options, upright winch (8274), laydown big winch (M10, etc) and non-winch. You can run just about any laydown style (most non-integrated) in the laydown winch style, spacers might be needed for some models (easy to make/buy for cheap). :D
