ARB Bar DOM tubing diameter?

Guys,

I'm having some difficulty verifying the diameter of the DOM tubing for the FJ80 ARB Bull Bars. Specifically across the top where the tabs are (though I think they're all the same).

Purpose: verify for fabricating hi-lift jack mount, similar to fourtreks version.

I believe it is 1 1/4" but it is raining pretty good right now and I cannot (will not) verify it right now. Maybe someone will come along and either confirm or correct this size.

Just went out and grabbed the caliber's.... 1.885 across the top bar! would never have thought it was that close to two inches!

edit: that was outside diameter, top bar.

Thanks for going out and getting the measurement, Keith.

I was surprised that this question didn't get more of a response.

I finally sorted out how to get a reasonably accurate measurement without having a caliper. I took an Irwin Quick-Grip vise and used that to set my OD. Then after pulling it off, used a standard ruler and measured the inside distance between the pads.

Top Bar: 1 7/8"
Midline Support bar: 1 3/8"

I've been in touch with Luke Clark (owner of Fourtreks). Initially I contacted him when I noticed the pull-down menu for his products listed the OD sizes, but no reference to what make/model examples would fit his offered sizes. He got right back to me. Very cool.

He'll likely updated his product's menu info to identify which size will fit the FJ80 ARB Bull Bars..... if we provide it. So, he's got the measurements from me. I'll pass on yours Keith to him as well.

Would anyone else care to help out and pull some measurements so that in the long run, it'll benefit all FJ80 owners that visit Fourtrek's products?

Glen, thanks for the help.

I'd suggest you try the method I used with the vise-grip to get a stable fixed width then measure again with your ruler/tape measure.

I can't imagine that the large top bar's OD is only 1 1/4" wide. Even the smaller one on mine is larger @ 1 3/8".

That said, you never know. If you confirm that's what you've got, and it's an imported ARB Bull Bar, then I'll pass the measurements on just the same to Luke.

Come to think of it,

I'd probably want the ID measurement of the mounting clamp to be a 1/16th larger than the OD of the bar. The reason why is I'd want to put a thin layer of neoprene or rubber to help protect the clamping surface area, as well as get a much better grip than metal on metal compression.

Just a thought.
