Hey guys I've searched the various threads in hopes of finding one that has some detail for installing the compressor and switch in the interior, near the rear diff lock switch on my 99. I haven't found one with much detail. I'm tired of going to the gas station to air up... Any help would be awesome. Thanks.

Mine is installed behind my fog light outside the truck, with the wiring run through the firewall to the switch. There are two switch blanks near the diff lock switch, that can be replaced with oem switches that will do the same thing as the ARB switch. Fairly simple.

The compressor draws a fair bit of current though, so installing the compressor inside the truck will require an aux power feed from the battery to be run all the way to the compressor or aux fuse block. If you have already done this then you are in good shape.

If you think you are going to be running through deep water, mount it as high as you can. Mine is mounted in the engine bay where AHC would be. FYI, don't run the compressor without your truck running. It will drain your battery in a hurry

Air tank goes behind the drivers side foglight. I have all the parts and the mounting fabbed, just need to mount it and plumb it.

Here is where I mounted mine. It required a bit of work though: needed to move the horn over and slightly relocate the PS reservoir. It's a good location, up high, back towards the firewall and easy to access the air hose connection and locker solenoid.

Mine is wired to the aux battery, then the switch wiring is run through the firewall (there's a nice access hole right behind the aux battery) to a re-purposed fog light switch in the bank to the left of the steering wheel. I put a connection in the wiring so that I can also tie in a trigger wire to the rear locker. i.e. when the OEM rear locker is turned on, it will also turn on the compressor.

And the switches. The one just above the locker switch is for the compressor. 80-series locker switch triggers the OEM rear locker and front ARB. Fog light switch on the left side triggers the Hella 4000s:

Here is my compressor mounting setup. I had no room to mount it under hood because I have the HZJ105 cyclonic air cleaner, dual batts and AHC.

Geeze your engine bay is full. If that were my mounting location, I would personally run an intake line up higher and attach the ARB compressor filter to it to prevent water crossings from murdering my ARB compressor.

Cappy, if you remove the ARB compressor air filter, there is a 1/4" NPT port. You can run a line to the clean air side of your cyclonic box. BTW, that is an AUS/M.E. spec UZJ100 air box. The HZJ105 box has a different lid.

I am planning on moving the air inlet up into the engine bay by the diff breathers, but I live in SoCal, unless El Nino hits this year, I won't be fording through any bodies of water.

You may be right in that it is a UZJ air box. However it is from a Siberian v8 gas 100 series, not aussie spec. It came from Yan @akella4x4 I will ask him and find out. I also got the hand throttle kit and pedal from him and I know that the pedal was from a HZJ105 so I assumed that the air box was the same.

Yeah, probably not worth the trouble for you.

Yes, other markets other than AUS received the cyclonic box. There are at least 3 variations of the cyclonic box.

But gas V8 = UZJ :)

HZJ = 1HZ engine
HDJ = 1HD-FTE
FZJ = 1FZ-FE
etc.

BTW, I swear that the compressor manual said NOT to tie the intlet for compressor into the airbox / snorkel. I'll have to look at the manual. ARB sells a remote mount inlet kit I was eying up, but it is probably overkill.

Ahhh makes sense. Thanks!

NOTE : ARB does not recommend connecting the compressor intake to the air
supply in a ‘snorkel’ or other part of the air ducting for engine aspiration. However, if an
extension tube is used to relocate the compressor intake to the engine intake supply then it must
be understood that the negative pressure (vacuum) created by the engine when it is running will
adversely affect compressor performance.
IF THE COMPRESSOR INTAKE IS CONNECTED TO THE ENGINE INTAKE THEN DO NOT RUN THE COMPRESSOR FOR
APPLICATIONS OTHER THAN ENGAGING AN AIR LOCKER WHILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING.

I knew I saw this in the manual, that's why I was going to run it back between the air cleaner and the AHC pump.

Thanks! I can see how how it could affect compressor performance. But usually the air compressor is running when the engine is at or near idle. It would be interesting to see a comparison between the different set-ups.
