Crap Russ... Scott mountain between Trinity Center and Callahan is closed... It's a 5400 ft pass... It may be closed till it warms up more... Call Caltrans tomorrow and see what's up, I just called the winter road conditions number 530 842 4438 and they said it's closed.

If it is closed, the next best route is through Happy Camp (assuming the slide near Somes bar is passable, better ask about that too) Yahoo maps says it's only 25 minutes more if you go through happy camp and then come up the Scott River into Ft. Jones. It's a windy road too, but a very nice drive.

I'll PM you some directions.

The Orleans slide is open but there may be time restrictions and the slide past Somes Bar is staffed and closed after 7am. There's a small get thru but I may not make it by 7. Checking the long alternate route.
This is trying to go south on me fast. :frown:

So looks like Becca and I might make it after all... I give it 50/50 right now...

rut ro shaggy!

Rut ro is right. Just talked to a gal at Jaktri Market in Trinity Center. As of a couple of days ago(snow), it was NOT open. Now things can change but I haven't been able to find the right person with first hand knowledge of the conditions.
Still looking...:crybaby:

you have fun boys and girls, take pics.

Josh

good to hear knolly! And russ let me know if i can do anything

Thanks. If you can come up with first hand knowledge of the Scott Mnt pass that'd be best. Right now I have a 'probably closed' from a "local" and a CLOSED from some CalTrans fone number.
SOOOOOO.....:frown: Looks like the current plan, and I say this loosly, is to head up hiway 96, pass the Orleans slide early, hang a right on Salmon River rd and see if the Somes Bar slide is passable. If it is great and I'll meet you'all at the claim. If it's not passable, it's on to Happy Camp and down to Etna. 215 miles, 4h 27m per Yahoo, 190m & 3h 45m per MSN. I like the second one best but still a 'farther' piece than Somes or Trinity but closer than thu Redding etc.

Don't want to catch a ride? Sounds like there's room...

Russ, I just talked to a local and the slide up from Somes is still blocking the road. He said they were talking about another 2 weeks before it will be open.

The river is up so says my informant, but it doesn't sound like it will cause us any trouble. Just enough to be fun.

I've decided to take Green Bastard, so we'll have to make a quick stop after we all meet up in Yreka to swap all my stuff... GB is on the way to Etna, not at my house.

Aside from that we're a go. See you guys in the morning!

So it looks like Al, Tyler, Sue, Russ, Maybe Travis, and myself. At least 5 trucks is a pretty good showing.
