I have an 06 GXR with an OEM screen that I’d like to add CarPlay to and keep the OEM screen, system, and controls. I just can’t find anything that would work with my specific head unit

Does anyone have the same head unit and added car play to it?

It’s a GCC spec so idk if the west has the same unit or not.

I’m new to Land Cruisers as we just bought our first, a 2006 model this past week. Lucky for us it came with a Groom V-Line installed which allows us to use Car Play on the dash.

There is also Naviks, if GROM doesn't work:

It should work with the GROM system as long as the stereo has factory nav. Check here what is compatible:
I’ve contacted GROM support and it doesn’t support my factory nav, apparently, the screen has it built it so it can’t intersect the signal from the ECU

I’ve tried contacting them and they said it doesn’t support my radio. I’m really not interested in changing the factory head unit to an aftermarket one tbh.

From what we see on the photos it should work with GROM VLine VL2. Please send us a private message with your ticket number or email that you used to contact GROM Audio support team. We will check the communication.

There aren't many options and Grom might be the best we've got right now, but it's really glitchy... really glitchy.

Grom is the best option out of of a long list of terrible options for factory nav. I am not a fan of Grom, but I have it because it's still better than the Chinese Tesla screens, etc. There just aren't any good options unless you find a rig without factory nav.

Your screen looks similar to a double-din unit and does not appear to have HVAC control on it. Are you certain you can't get an Alpine unit, etc?

Mine is the same. It gets a little better if you install the updates... which is a clunky process, but doable.

Grom is also overpriced. I got a similar unit for my Prius for like $200 from carabc. Simpler and it works way better.
