A couple thing in particular. To me it acts like a lifted truck. It seems to wander when i go over bumps, very very mild though. And where is the Cdiff lock button? And the steering wheel is a little off center. One or two other minor things on a very solid rig. Any help would be great, I know every inch of a 60 but this is an 80. Thanks Oh and it is a 97 fzj collectors...whatever "collectors edition" means

How many miles?
Ever been wheeled?
What tires and how old are they?
Any grease in the TRE's?
How do the birfs look?

LOL. The CDL button was installed by a previous owner to manually control the center diff locker in high range. If the '7 Pin Mod' was also done, the switch gives you complete control of the center diff lock in both high and low ranges. Normally, 80 series trucks after '92 in the US did not have the button, rather the center diff was automatically locked when low range was engaged. (Earlier years of the 80 series had the button from the factory, but I'm not sure exactly how it worked.) The button is still available from Toyota and several vendors for all years of the 80. It simply plugs in to an existing plug behind the dash.

Search for '7 pin mod' and/or 'center diff lock switch' in the 80 forum for more details.

is that button a pretty simple install? And does it go in the same location as in the 91-92?

141k, never been wheeled, Stock size Michelin radials, i'll grease em tomorrow, and i do not know what the birfs are

It's plug-and-play, the only reason it takes any time at all is you have to remove the trim around the radio. It goes easily in one of several spots above the A/C controls in the 93-94's, and I'm pretty sure it's the same in the 95 and up models.

Birfs are the CV joints housed in the steering knuckles. The part of the axle that articulates to allow for steering. You will get very close and personal with them in the near future, I'll bet. Wandering might indicate alignment issues, which would point to your trunion bearings being shot or the wheel bearings the same. Search 'front axle service', 'birf', 'wheel bearings', and/or 'trunnion bearings' in the 80 section for more details.

The '80 has a couple of unique quirks that you maybe feeling that are normal. The stock suspension is very soft, especially on the later rigs, this causes them to wallow. The panhards attach on opposite sides, so when a bump is hit the body does a little sideways jig.

And where is the Cdiff lock button? ...

As Spike said to be installed. IMHO way over rated, not needed for most.

And the steering wheel is a little off center. ...

Easy to fix, check to make sure nothing is bent, if not, adjust the drag link, the same as you would on the '60.

It means there is or was a little plaque that said "collectors edition"!:hillbilly:

I swear this used to say 'WHAT is the Cdiff lock button?'. I assumed you already had one. The answer to your question is 'At the dealer or vendor of your choice'. :D Somewhere between $50 and $75 IIRC.

Or the :hillbilly: way, use an emergency flasher switch.

I found the the pin7 mod for the center diff lock is very useful if you have an auto-locker in the rear, especially if you drive on slickrock alot.

Sure helped turning down Black Bear Pass in the 100. :D

Seriously on an 80....IF you have ARB lockers the CDL button is a godsend! You can lock the diff(s) and unlock the CDL and it can turn up huge rocks and ledges on a dime. Can't do that with factory lockers cuz ya can't unlock the CDL.

I didn't say that it was useless, the switch/pin 7 and the "Pepsi flingin" cup holder were the first mods on my rig. I find it useful, mainly to turn off and relock all of the lockers with one switch, but it isn't necessary for wheeling, Rob doesn't have it and gets plenty of wheelin in.:hillbilly: I have seen a couple of times where drivers got themselves in big trouble from forgetting to push it.

It would be a simple job to add a couple of switches to allow diff lockers without CDL and run only front locker, but I haven't found the need.
