Anyone used tacoma or mini truck leafs on a 40?

I had posted this over in the 40 section, but I figured it would be more appropriate here.

I'm getting all the parts together to go SOA and I was going to copy Bustanutley and use XJ springs, however I was looking at my buddies mini truck/tacoma and I noticed the rear leafs may work.

I want to say they were around 56" long and seem super flexy.

So anyone used them or thought about using them?

Any reason not to use them and stick with the XJs?

I'm going with 60 series leafs that are flipped up front.

Thanks,
Brittain

I used minitruck 56" leafs on the rear of my 40 for a while, i had to put an add-a-leaf, and it flexed great but my anti-wrap bar couldn't control the axle wrap, it was bent in 3 diff directions when i pulled it off, i broke 3 rear u- joints with those leafs too

I have tacoma leafs in my... errr. tacoma (I know, it's boring, haha).

They are very soft. With the overloads I don't get any wrap (with 32s and factory drivetrain), but you don't want to tow with them! They sag pretty low when loaded with 500-800 pounds.

What all do you want to use your rig for?

I have a full set (of 4) 05+ Tacoma leafs that I am going to use on my mini. I'm debating right now on using all 4 or do the rears up front and Taco's in the back. The one's I have measured out to around 53" I believe.

They have a TSB for harsh ride when towing or with constant load. The put a 4 leaf pack in instead of a 3 leaf. I can tell you from riding/driving one with the 4 leaf... I would never swap unless you are going to constantly be pulling a heavy trailer or something. It rides like a covered wagon with the 4 leafs.

Thanks for the info so far.

I stick to trails and rock, not a fan of mud, plus with the 2F not really the horsepower for mud.

So consensus would be they are two soft for a 40?

Like I said, I haven't used them yet. If I had to guess, I would think the 3 pack would be pretty soft for a 40. The 4 pack would possibly work but they are pretty stiff. What about a 3 pack with an add-a-leaf? Should still be pretty flexy. What's the rest of your setup going to be like?

Going to use some stock 60 series leafs up front with 60 series axles front and rear. Haven't decided between iroks or rockers. Will be a 2F 4sp crawler and either orion or split case.

Hi All:

60/62/70 Series rear leaf spring packs are ~42 inches long.

Supposedly old school J**P Wagoneer rear leaf packs are ~52 inches long.

The rear 60/62 Series leaf springs are easy to swap under a 40 Series.

Longer than 42 inch rear leaf packs will require some engineering, such as moving forward the fixed end, and using some long-ass rear shackles with hangers on the rear crossmember.

But, check with Bustanutley, he is running J**p XJ Cherokee rear leafs under his VJ40.

Good luck!

Alan

Alan,
I got the idea from Bustanutley. He told me he is running XJ springs with one leaf added to the pack.
