Anyone used San Diego Trux before?

Yep, used them once when I was in a time crunch. John and crew are very professional. A bit cheaper than the dealer and use OEM parts.

Thanks guys! Just got off the phone with them. I can tell you one thing do not use Frank Toyota on Mile of Cars, they suck!

John is legit. And on the rare occasion if something gets missed/overlooked he takes it very seriously and corrects it! I would also suggest to stay away from Miller Toyota in Lemon Grove.

Also Jeff at Service Pro Automotive in San Marcos. Great guy and owner, used to have an 80 but has moved up to the 120 platform. They’re a Toyota/Lexus repair shop.

I'll keep you guys posted. All I can say Frank Toyota sucks!! I have gone Lemon Grove toyota before for basic stuff and they were way better than frank. @Pigcat The service advisor at frank didn't know what zerk fittings were when I asked to make sure they greased my drive shafts.

Just picked mine up from SDTrux. Had a wiring issue which they found, corrected and charged me very fairly.

I'd highly recommend. Super professional folks.

Got a call from SD Trux yesterday. They test drove my 100, hooked it up to a computer and could not find anything wrong. No errors, codes or past issues. Said it ran like a 1999 100 with 250k on the clock and that they have no clue what the Toyota dealership was talking about.

Only issues they found was some sidewall damage on a tire and that the zerks on the drive shafts had not been greased in a long time. I specifically asked Toyota specifically to do that!! Frank Toyota will be hearing from me!

+1 for SD Trux. T-Belt combo @180K and couldn't have been more impressed. John was frank and thoughtful about a few items that came up.

Without question I would head back for the jobs I'm not smart enough to do or have the time to tackle.

Truck Shop all day long.

See my post here 2008-2010 Radiator Failure and Public Service Announcement - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/2008-2010-radiator-failure-and-public-service-announcement.917447/post-13978306

I think it's misleading to use OEM part numbers + MSRP pricing but provide non-OEM parts. Maybe this is normal for independent shops, but I've always hated taking our cars to any mechanic and this reaffirmed that. We had just picked up this LX used, SD Trux serviced it it's entire life for the previous owner so I decided why not save some time and have them do the work?

Also just did the my first oil change on the LX today (had SD Trux change the oil back in the summer with the radiator), and noticed that the oil filter assembly inner tube was missing from the housing. Turns out, it was in the filter itself, but the tube was cut from the bottom flange that supposed to be in the housing. I would expect for a shop to point this out, rather than re-using some previous janky configuration or even worse, doing this to make it work.

Isn't it a case of insert push down and twist to lock? Any chance that was repeated in reverse when actual element was removed?

It's tabbed at the base. Removal requires bending the tabs up, on the Toyota unit.

But, I stand corrected. The assy that was installed looks like DORMAN 917016 which the tube can be removed. Still irritating to find though.

It's been years and years but I went to the Truck Shop twice and both times were a nightmare that required a return trip and a waste of my time. I'll skip the details but it was pretty shocking and all based around poor shop communication. Never again.

+1 for SD Trux much more professional. Only place I'll take my LC period.

I have been taking my trucks to SDTrux for years. I am pretty sure they use Toyota OEM parts in most cases unless they deem an aftermarket part is better. For instance if a new Toyota part is not available, only reman Toyota and they feel an aftermarket part is higher quality. And in that case they fully disclose if asked.

I would be prepared to provide a lot more evidence that SDTrux is using aftermarket parts when they are claiming OEM. Did you ask them about the filter? What did they say? Best to take this up with the shop directly and not put a shop's reputation in question on a public forum unless it is warranted.
