Anyone tried Armorology bumpers or sliders?

I've read some great things about a custom fabricator here in Colorado down in the Springs called Armorology from a 4runner and Tacoma board. I want to get some sliders and a front bumper, and I was thinking of going the custom route to be able to put in some input to the design process. The owner of this place has nothing but fantastic things said about him, and his designs looks extremely nice. I have been going back and forth about getting Slee stuff which I really like and am local to, but I'm balking at spending over $2.5k for just sliders and a bumper (blueberry). If I was going to spend that kinda money, it would be nice to get something designed from the ground up, and IMO the price will end up being less from what I could gather from the 4runner board. That said, does anyone here have any experience with Jed at Amorology?

Here's their website and a 4runner bumper I really like:

Looks like a really good design. If you can get good feedback on him, like it sounds like you have, go for it. I really think you may spend the same money though. It will be the first 100 series bumper they have built...lots of work goes into the first run of anything

Looks like a quality bumper. Having been there, a first of anything could easily be 2x as much as a production run. Even though he may be set up for it, there will always be some sort of challenge that will cost money and time.

I haven't heard anything but positive reviews on their 4Runner/Taco stuff... if he'd make a 100 series bumper for you I'm sure it would be bomber.... however I'd probably forget about thinking that it would be cheaper than one of the readily available bumpers, I'm sure once you got done outfitting it with everything you want it'll be the same or more.

As for sliders, lots of options out there and IMO there isn't a better product than the Slee step sliders for family-friendly wagon wheeling. Though yes, there are cheaper alternatives. You could get some bolt-on MT's, for example, put that savings towards your bumper, then later in life when you've recovered from the bumper and still wish you had the steps, sell the MT sliders for $200 less than you paid, and put that towards the real deal. ;)

edit: being in Denver is a nice perk, as there are likely 100 mildly built-up 100 series here so selling on the used market is relatively easy. Which is why l lean towards bolt-on stuff as you don't really need to "commit" to anything, as long as you don't trash it.

I heard back from him via email last night, and he expressed interest on doing the 100 so I'll give him a call this afternoon and see what we can come up with. I definitely want to have him make my sliders and have them built with doubling as an air tank in mind, and maybe when he takes a look at front end I'll get a better idea of what we can do for a front bumper. The FJ and 4R bumpers he builds look incredible!

I agree that Slee's stuff is extremely high quality, and honestly it was my first choice since even before I bought my 100. I like their step sliders, but I feel like they stick straight out more than what I'd like. The non step sliders have a much better angle on them but look like they wouldn't make a very good step. I'm not married and don't have kids, so I'm not extremely worried about having a really nice wide step for people to hop in and out however I would like to have something to help load stuff into the roof rack and not be worried about injuring my knee (again lol).

I figured that for the money of the step sliders at over $900, I could probably have someone build up some custom ones that meet my needs perfectly and have something a little different. In terms of budget for the sliders/bumpers, I was extremely close to buying a 2006 100 series then building it, but I chose a low mile 1998 instead so that my budget for mods wasn't stressed and I could build it far quicker than with the 06. That said I still want to be conscious of how I spend the money because you blink and spend $5k on these trucks getting them set up!

Years ago, a fella came to some LSLC meetings who had lived in C Springs. His 80 Series had front and rear Armorology bumpers. They looked good and he had a good experience with the company.

The thing with the 100 Series is that, due to it's front end measurements, it takes a LOT of bumper. Most 1 offs I've seen look very fat.

Even the Blueberry doesn't completely hide it's "fatness", but I still think it's the best looking option.

The problem with custom is, you never really know if you'll like it until it is done...and at that point, you own it...love it or hate it.

I like Christo's bumper and Metal Tech's sliders...

I would love to get a new bumper for my Hundy...

I'm very interested in what Armorology comes up with as I think the 4Runner bumper shown is, by far, the nicest I've seen.

From their website it looks like they don't do much production, just one-offs.

I confess I was pretty excited about the TJM, but their (lack of) customer service has turned me off.

I look forward to your follow-up.
