i am considering swapping my springs...
also getting ready for a soa.
i put ome under my bj42 and the shackle angle, in the rear is brutal. completely vertical on one and maybe 20 degrees forward on the other. also i want to move the rear axle back a few inches.
i want to avoid cutting off the hangers and moving them.
anyone have any suggestions?
also i can possibly get my hands on a set of 70 series springs. they measured out 4-5" longer, with the centre pin 2 inches further from the fixed eye.:wrench::banana:

Hi All:

The SWB 70 Series uses the same rear springs as the 60/62 Series. The front springs are like maybe one inch longer than the front 40/45 Series springs.

Regarding the OME springs on your BJ42 and the rear shackle angle, I'd say that the spring rate is too high for the amount of load your rig has on it. I ran OME 140 light-load rear springs on my FJ40 with a soft-top for about ten years and had a decent rear shackle angle, ride quality, and excellent rear wheel travel. Chances are that you have the OME14 medium-load rear springs. So consider puling the 3rd or 4th leaf from the top of the rear pack to lessen the spring rate and improve the rear shackle angle.

For a SOA conversion I completely agree that you should use rear 60/70 Series leaf spring packs. You don't need to move the shackle hangers, just use longer rear shackles.

Good luck!

Alan

just to clarify, the front springs are longer?
what about using fronts in the rear?
